Because its a world even, africa is just hosting it. an African singer wouldn't fit with the world audience. While Shakira works in south africa and the rest of the world.

Ah common Stefan! What is one of the main purposes of hosting a competition? FINANCIAL/Revenue. It would have been just MORE than fair for a South African artist to have that contract not a Colombian!

That aside: the song is actually plagiarized. There was a threat of a law suit a few months back. Apparently Sony resolved the issue out of court. The original song is by a Cameroonian group called Zangalewa (they were all part of the military) from the 80s. Was a huge hit in Africa in the 80s. Some of my South American friends told me it was also a hit in some South American countries. It is a pretty long song, so if u are looking for the particular line she copied, scroll to mins: 7:30 or just use the 2nd video. Someone cut it to that specific part
