Let's not overreact over that blunder. Indeed he was very shaky throughout the match, but no way he's dropping out starting line-up that quickly. Martinez should get his minutes, but we can't say that Sommer is declining rapidly, at least need to see way more before we make such claims.

I couldn't disagree more.
His defensive technique and reflexes make him one of the best in the world. I always enjoy his defenses. Mistakes happen to every goalkeeper. The only difference is that some goalkeepers have a team in front of them that is capable of scoring 2-3 goals every game and that mistake is "erased"

If he was one of the best in the world, he would not have spend most of his career at monchengladbach. So no, he was never that great and some good games for Switzerland dont change that.

LOL I agree he s not WC but his best days were at BMG....
Imho he s still good enough for Inter( a big team) he wont be outstanding but i also doubt he ll be the reason why we ll miss out on our goals.....

I have to say that i take slight offense at the a few good games with switzerland either you never watched him at BMG or you just forgot cause he had more memorable games for them than he had for the NT.....

That winless record of Bayern against Gladbach was due to Sommer. Disrespect the guy gets is unbelievable. He's not an Ochoa who just had few good games with Mexico. He was one of the best Bundesliga GKs for years, only second to Neuer.

That doesn't change the fact that Onana was great at Inter. Taking ManUtd as an example is not a good idea IMO. That club is a toxic environment. Even greater players than Onana have failed to deliver at expectations there. It's very difficult to succeed there because of obvious reasons. Having no real sporting project, incompetent head management, poor coach and worst of everything; throwing players under the bus to get away with it.

I don't mean to excuse Onana's poor performances with ManUtd, but the guy is being scapegoated just like many others before him and lately Casemiro.

Onana has done very well with Inter jersey. Even his character was for every praise. His confidence was a boost in our defence, especially how we've been quite shaky while Handa was still in the goal.

We should not forget that confidence is a huge thing for keepers and it s hard to gain it back especially if your defense is leaking.... Imho thats one of the main difference of Onana at Inter vs Onana at Manu.

I think he was great most of the time. His ball distribution got worse at the end, but gor me the reason is because the rest of the team got tired and stop moving as at the beginning.
