Diplomacy is a degree? What's the process for getting into diplomacy over there?

I meant like International Relations obviously, but there are some specific programmes like european studies and stuff like that that can give you a career in diplomacy

get a graduate diploma on diplomacy or similar, and work for an embassy or a firm. She loves this american shit.

any suggestions on what she should do?

What firms hire people with that kind of diploma? Gotta be hard to get work in an embassy but would be pretty ace.

Nope I'm obviously pretty clueless, was thinking of going into marketing as I like writing but apparently its tough to do that without doing sales beforehand and I do NOT want to do sales.

firms dont care about the diploma so much to be honest.. as long as u got the skills. I hope she gets an embassy job she fucking loves that shit hahah, but its hard as fuck

It depends. If it's a type of company and job where a person can provide a great portfolio or a huge ass resume then diploma might not matter as much.

Over here all you have to do is to be a relative to someonw who works in the ministery.

We have doctors, engineers and scientists who work as taxi drivers and waiters. I was first in my class though I wasnt much into studying, but who is, my high school degree would grant me any university I chose and that would be engineering dose I was in the mathematical sciences in high school, though I realized it'd be a waste of time cause eventually I'd work in trading business with my old man after graduating. So I picked faculty of commerce (Business and accounting branch).

Though my love for science and physics didnt stop me from reading and even studying every now and then, it's a shame that there is no future for science in Egypt, otherwise I'd have been typing this post from the moon.

MS in bio informatics

Too many programming jobs were being outsourced to China after the collapse of IT bubble, I detered away from being a programmer and combined my programming skills with bio and chem.

It pays well and the work ends early but the area is too conservertive and boring. Everything is about safety first (rightfully so), that your career progresses by not fking up, and there's no feeling of achievement at all. I'll probably move to finance before I get too old.

Just last month in Kuwait they've caught an Egyptian doctor who's also been working as a meat butcher on the streets in his spare time.

@Brancazinho

Thanks for your advice. It clears up a lot of things.

About the double degree, can you please explain more? You have to finish the Grand Ecole program first (in 2 years?), and then spend more years at the same school or others to specialize in a particular field, right? Or can you do both at the same time? What if you want to do a double degree with a foreign school?

I know a data science program which has connection to Telecom ParisTech. I heard that each year they send 4-5 students to Telecom ParisTech for Grand Ecole program.

In the next 2 years, I will (hopefully) have two master degrees: one is master in computer science, another is master of engineering in production engineering and management. So basically, I already have 3 different kinds of major in my background (I did a bachelor in accounting back then but my grade for that program was pretty meh). I just need another one in mathematics (data science track), then go for a PhD in computational science (which is combination of engineering, math and computer science). So I don't know if I should try to apply to Grand Ecole program or not.

I hate technical/scientific fields, but it seems I can somehow manage to survive well in those fields. In exchange I have a pathetic life.

Sorry about the late reply.

You do the double degrees (in France or with a foreign school) while doing the Grande Ecole programme. As a result, it tends to add 1 more year to your curriculum.

My advice is that if you're thinking about a PhD, then the Grande Ecole is not useful. You can go ahead and do it.
If you're unsure about what you want to do or feel like you want to keep doors open do the GE. Also keep in mind that the PhD's are not very "company friendly" in France. Do it if you want to do research afterwards or want to go abroad. If your plan is to stay France and you're more interested in making money than doing research, go for the GE.

Hope it clears things. Don't hesitate to send me a PM if you want other explanations.

Got my graduation letter through the mail. Now to avenge the shocker of a photo taken at my undergraduate ceremony a few years ago.

I was a software engineering major and after two years couldn't figure out how to program. It was just too hard to grasp Java. Then I became a Journalist major.... and it worked for the better.

Oh is there a major like that in your country? I looked for that as well, but never found something like that.
