D'Ambrosio is decent at defending. He is definitely much better at it than Santon, who you haven't listed.

Dambrosio is the kind of full back Mancini wants: tidy, defensively solid, has heart and doesnt risk anything. Mancini wants defensive fullbacks and he is great for that.

D'Ambrosio is defensively solid ONLY IF he is back to his position. Most of times he runs up the field and never returns exposing Ranocchia alone then we blame Ranocchia..

D'Ambrosio doesn't risk anything because all he does is to give possessions to opponents.
