I think the best option for both inter and him is to loan him out to a serie a club given the circumstances. His talents are undoubtedly great but the fact that he only played in the Belgian league and had multiple major injuries makes it unwise for us to bring him back. Given this, there are no assurances of him being adequate backup option. Besides, I doubt conte will trust him, we all know conte has this knack of playing only players he trusts, ones he requested by himself or have experience. He will eat bench here, look at what happened to pinamonti. Besides, it is unwise to bring back a promising 21 year old defender whom we spent 17m on just to keep him as a backup to the best defenders of the league, also defenders who have very clean injury record with a lot performance consistency. It would be a waste of talent.
it's better to loan him out to another serie a club for 2years, where if he performs well, we will be able to make some capital gain on him or bring him back to replace any of our outgoing starting defenders.

Any news about him coming back? I was under the impression that it was a deal we had already completed.

Reports saying inter exercised their buy back option and Zinho will be in Milano tomorrow to sign a new contract and find another club where he will be loaned to.

Don't have one.
Why didn't we say goodbye to kolarov and replace him with zinho? We are probably that desperate for money...

It`s clear that we had a gentleman`s agreement with Standard Liège to buy him back, no matter what, because they helped us comply with the FFP requirements.

FCIN: It is not yet clear whether Vanheusden will be able to return to the Belgian club (on loan).

Because we are not going to keep him. He's going either on loan or we sell him (maybe with a buyback).

Found the figures:

In 2019 Inter sold him for €11.74m.

Gazzetta dello Sport: the 21-year-old arrives on a permanent basis for a fee of €16 million. That`s quite an interest, I get it why the Belgians agreed.

According to Belgian media, Vanheusden is expected in Milan today to finalise his return to Inter for 16m. A loan to a Serie A club is the most likely scenario for his future even though Standard would like to keep him for one more season.

I really really doubt we paid 16 mil to get him back. I am sure we worked out some sort of understanding with Standard about the payment and even spread it out.

Incidentally, why wasn't he present during first day of pre season?

Probably because he's going to get flipped on loan ASAP.

Joao Mario isn't there either.

About Spezia, I'm not totally convinced is it the best destination. Without Italiano and with Motta, I figure they are going down. They are going to lose a lot of games. Is that the best environment for the CB kid? Is he going to get minutes when they are fighting for the relegation from the matchday 1? Or maybe Vanheusden is that good that he just takes the starting spot?

According to Sky, Vanheusden is close to Genoa who are now ahead of Spezia. Loan.

I agree with @CafeCordoba . I am not convinced Spezia are the best environment for him. New inexperienced coach and a team that will fight to avoid relegation again. I would prefer Sassuolo, Bologna or Sampdoria but Genoa isn't that bad. I think he could easily start there.

Yeah. Ballardini is expected to stay. Another bonus about Genoa is they play with a back 3. Vanheusden had only played in a back 4 in Belgium so it would be a great learning experience for him to adjust to the formation. Who knows what formation Motta is going to play at Spezia and how long he's going to last.

Cant wait to see him at Genoa and hopefully here some day. Him and Bastoni would be a great pair for the future.
