I'm not Italian but do follow the Azzurri particularly as I have issues with the national football team of my own country so I don't generally bother with them. I would like Italy to get something like Greece, Algeria and New Zealand and avoid something like Holland, Uruguay and South Korea. Incidentally, why isn't the English term of Ivory Coast used when every other country that can be changed is?

Draw is Friday 18:00 cat - 21:00 cat.

Yeah SA will get a seeding being the host, totally undeserved its fair to let the host qualify but they shouldn't be given a seeding. The I presume the other 7 will be based on rankings and no side from the same confederation can be in the same group.

it's impossible, because there are more than 8 European teams (12-13?) so some of them will go to the same group ;)

That would be hilarious when the host nation would be seeded at every round. (group, round of 16, quarterfijal, semi.... ) :D

Yeah you are right. I suppose that doesn't apply to the european teams. The host nation is always seeded. SA will get a very soft draw on Friday, just wait and watch . Sep will have fixed it.

Don't be surprised if the group contains New Zealand,Korea DPR,Honduras/Slovenia and SA.

IFthey will make the Pots according to the World Ranking, then

Pot 1 will be: South Africa, Spain, Brazil, Netherland, Italy, Portugal, Germany, France

Pot 2 will be: Argentina (!), England, Cameroon, Greece, USA, Mexico, Ivory Coast, Chile

Pot 3 will be: Switzerland, Uruguay, Serbia, Australia, Nigeria, Denmark, Algeria, Paraguay

Pot 4 will be: Slovenia, Slovakia, Ghana, Honduras, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, North-Korea

Some interesting groups can be available with that system :D

Spain, Argentina, Serbia, Ghana LOL

or:

SA, Chile, Australia, Slovenia LOL

Seeds are decided according to rankings and past world cup performances except for SA. The lowest ranked side at the wc gets a seeding. Typical fifa politics.;)

Here are the seeds:

World Cup 2010: Top Seeds Announced, France In Pot 2

Netherlands have been named among the top eight seeds for Friday's World Cup draw, while France have been dropped to Pot 2...

The FIFA Organising Committee has announced the eight top seeds for the 2010 World Cup draw, which will be held in Cape Town on Friday 4 December.

The seeding was based on the October 2009 FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking and Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Argentina and England are therefore the seven squads that join hosts South Africa as seeded teams for the Final Draw.

Netherlands were initially expected to be placed in Pot 2, but the Dutch eventually replaced France in Pot 1. Portugal also missed out on a place among the eight top seeds.

Pot 2 will be composed of teams from AFC (Australia, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic), CONCACAF (Honduras, Mexico, USA) and OFC (New Zealand)Pot 3 will include teams from CAF (Algeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria) and CONMEBOL (Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay)
Pot 4 will have the remaining UEFA teams (Denmark, France, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland)

Imagine a Brazil-France-Ivory Coast-Mexico group. That would be killer.

Or a South-Africa-Newzealand-Chile-Slovenia one.... :)

Wait... I do not get this seeding. Does Pot 2 mean that those countries are considered as second highest seeding behind Pot 1? Or is the list only divided by regions...

After Pot 1, it is divided by regions, so that teams from the same region will not be drawn against each other.

But I think a Pot 1 team can be drawn against the same region, because there are too many European countries...

A bit of both. Pot 1 has the top ranked teams. The other teams are divided according the the regions imho.

Yes I understand that, but how are they going to proceed with the seeding? I mean you cant consider France and Slovenia to be the same seeding group right? Or Mexico and NZ?

After the top 8, there are no seeds. They put the best 7 plus the host in the first POT and then separate the rest by region. So yes, since France was not in the top 7, they are in the same POT as Slovenia.

This is so that France and Slovenia will not be drawn together...

it can't be made in fair system.

Some nation will suck this system and some will have a big luck (eg. getting SA from first pot etc.)

I knew it wasn't you who had written it like that because I've seen it so many times before, I'm just intrigued as to why it is like that.
