Around this time last year I remember I was a few days away from going to Milan for the first time to see Inter play at Giuseppe Meazza, figured if I'm gonna go see them it may as well be the derby. Incredible atmosphere could be heard a mile away and inside the stadium was a surreal experience. My brother even mentioned that people can talk all they want about incredible atmospheres at Anfield, it could never compare to what we experienced in that derby. Seems like a long year since then, but I'll never forget that Icardi hat trick.

Second derby to visit in 1 year, last year when we won 3-2 I was there so i hope that it's going to be the same result. What a game that was. Icardi for the hattrick again!

Going from a match every three days to no matches in 14 days. Swell.
Meanwhile on AC Delusional Forum, do these people seriously think they can slip in more than a single goal at best past Skriniar and DeVrij?

Do we start Candreva here? Dude usually has 2 good games a season, both against Milan. Then again, I'd be furious if I saw Politano out of the starting line-up.

May our lord and savior Marcelo be back for this one.

This is the start of our biggest week of the season. We play Milan, Barcelona and Lazio in 7 days. 6 or more points from this week can do wonders to our confidence. 3 or less points can fuck us up real good.

The derby will be a close game, but if Brozovic is back then I am quite confident we got this. On the starting line up, a lot will depend on the fitness of players returning from International break, specially because of the tough week ahead. Spalletti will have to think about rotation. If everyone is fit and ready after the break, I would start something like this in the derby:

Martinez - Icardi -------------
---------- Nainggolan - Politano
Brozovic - Gagliardini
Asamoah - Skriniar - de Vrij - Vrsaljko
Handanovic

Two points:
1. Perisic can get some rest, and it will be good to start an attacking player like Martinez (or Keita) to mind fuck Abate.
2. This will also help us rotate for the Barca game, where we can bring on D'Ambrosio, Miranda, Vecino, and Perisic for a bit more defensive line up as well as rotate 4 players.

We got this. Forza Inter.

Good formation. Unfortunately, lucho will not go for it. I honestly expect Vecino, Perisic, Candreva, and dumbo to start. Same lineup as vs Fiorentina.

He would be insane to start Candreva ahead of Politano. And I don't think he will. It'll be the same lineup vs PSV give or take Vrsaljko (apparently D'Ambrosio took a knock on international duty.)

4 - 0 Milan, Suso scores 3 and Cutrone with a tap-in.

All three Suso goals identical - predictably cutting in from the right onto his left and curling it into the far corner with Handanovic rooted to the spot.

Handanović doesn't need to try if he knows it's going in.

Asamoah takes a few seconds to react. So he will be a lot slower than Suso. I think Lautaro in addition to Icardi to force Gattuso to defend.

The issue is that Spalletti would not field this lineup for a simple reason: winger defense.

This is the trademarked Spalletti Winger Defense Rating Table:
1) Perisic ---- (10)
2) Candreva - (7)
3) Politano --- (5)
4) Keita ------ (3)

Spalletti won't start a game with a total Winger Defense Rating of less than 10.

If you look at this table you will realize why Spalletti hasn't fielded Politano and Keita together (as wingers)

Basically if you drop Perisic, Candreva will play. In the formation you suggested, Lautaro is playing in a false winger role where he would be even less defensive than Keita. Meaning at the very least Politano won't play.

The only way we could field a team like this would be to replace Gagliardini in that lineup with a pure DM, which we don't have. So unless we sign a proper DM I don't see Spalletti playing a formation like this.
