I hope we play to his strenghts.

It's high risk deal to be honest, but there are certain ways in which he'd almost certainly be deadly.

When you look at his goals for Samp for example, you see he is very useful when we can break forward quickly. Most of his goals are from counters or situations where his team won the ball high up the pitch. If we can get him room to run direct towards goal, we'll be getting a great goalscorer.

If Dortmund had bought him to replace Götze/Lewandowski, I'd have little doubt that he would've fit in almost immediately.

But with history of Inter, he'll have to press against 3 defenders alone and in most situations play against a team that sits in two lines of 4 in front of their goal without any help from teammates. And he definitely isn't the striker to work in such conditions.

When putting him into Mazzarri's Napoli, I fancy him more in Cavani role than in Lavezzi role.

I agree he'd fit more to Cavani role but he's not gonna be as good as Cavani dropping back helping the defense at least not initially. As fas as i've seen, he doesn't seem egoistical so probably will listen to Mazzarri if he told him to get his ass back to defense. However, going forward he could be really good as you mentioned. Wish we could buy a good playmaker that could feed through balls to him, I'm sure he would capitalize on it.

Mazzari is known to bring the best out of his strikers historically, so things are looking bright for Mauro if he can keep up.

I was not overly impressed by him in any stretch whenever I saw him for Samp if I'm being honest - he's not one to really add to the flow of the game or is overly felt unless he scores a goal.

What did grab my attention and is his by far his best asset, is his movement off the ball and ability to run the channels and lines in a direct way trying to help the midfielders and lead them to the pass instead of being led.
That's a great quality for a CF to have, and one of the only things I was very positive about when I saw him.

He is very reliant on team-play and his teammates and their abilities to feed him (which in our current team is a minus, imo, as we're kind of a "take the ball and see what you can do" team offensively the last few years) - but if those teammates around him improve and he is surrounded by players who are willing and able to feed him and recognize his runs and movement - he has a potential to be a great goalscorer. He is always thinking about how to score, and it's not a given in todays game and a positive to his game.

All in all, I do not think he is worth the money mentioned with him right now at all - and think he is quite limited and without a great room to improve personally despite his young age - and is strictly depended on the supporting cast around him.

But if we manage to improve the latter he is a kid who could score 15-20 goals a season in his career as he gets more experience and turn out as a solid signing.
I do not see him blowing up to a very high level though. I think a slightly better Pazzini is his ceiling(not comparing playstyles, just ability)

Great post Stanko! It elaborately relays my apprehensions about Icardi. We will see him for what he truly is in two seasons or so - I still stand by my prediction that he really won't bring the house down. If he turns out to be the second coming of Inzaghi though, I'll be happy.

I don't think you guys are giving him enough credit. He may not be a dribbler but I think he has the ability to link up and pass a bit better than a Pazzini. He was 19 the majority of this year playing his first year in Serie A, plenty of young strikers would have problems linking up while fighting two centerback.s As you said time will tell, but I see his ceiling as being much higher than you all give him credit for.

This is a fantastic quality for a striker. Something that Palacio possesses as well. I am super excited to see their movements together.

Milito for example, is a good striker, however his movement is not great.

Also, when Coutinho moved to Liverpool, one could see how much he benefited from Luis Suarez' runs, whereas at Inter players were much too static.

Super excited for Icardi, Im being super cereal.

Mazzari's record with strikers is also amazing as stanko mentioned

First - Cassano + Pazzo duo at Sampdoria was awesome

Second - Hamsik, Cavani, Lavezzi

Now - Palacio and Icardi :fap:
