Seriously... why do we have a "Books" thread on FIF? I mean, really... reading books? What's next, learning how to sew?

Reading a book... pfff... what a unmanly thing to do. Only gays & queers read tbh, which says a lot about the people who have posted in this thread so far, & I'm really surprised that Han himself even opened the thread... I don't even know what to think anymore.

The only books I'd bother to look at if it was the last thing I'd do on earth, are books with pictures & coloring areas.

Currently thinking of buying Pirlo's biography seeing as it's been released in English.

They've released a few excerpts on goal.com, Uni. So if you want a bit of an idea about the book you might want to check that out

It seemed funny but last time I read a footballers biography was Ibrahimovic which was good at the beginning but got boring through the end.

Pele and Maradona's were interesting.

Gabriel García Márquez passed away this afternoon, it's a good opportunity for y'all to read his marvelous work.

can anyone recommend some good economics, i read two basic economics books (one by thomas sowell the other forgot the author)

and please none of that how to get rich crap

I HATE books that are motivational and shit like that, if you need a book to keep you going you might just quit and fuck it

No one ever got rich from reading a book. You get rich from trying, failing, and learning.

Learn from other entrepreneur mistakes, but you WILL make your own at some point, and no education will teach you how to deal with them, it comes down to your own decision making process.

Freakonomics is pretty interesting, although some would say it's not true 'economics.'

You could also pick a couple issues of The Economist for more real-world-ish economics.

A range of sources. Look at any entrepreneur. They have a myriad of failed businesses. The reasons they fail is generally extremely specific and yoy wont necessarily get much usrful advice out of it. I recently read an article on something like the 12 biggest entrepreneurs in the uk and their failures. The vast majority of their successes and failures wont be repeated again. The two best things youll ever get are general advice which wont help you much, or, the best advice, is to go out there, try for yourself and fail for yourself.

now entrepreneur is very different to doing an rconomics degree of course so it depends what pimping wantsto do. If he wants ro set up his own businesses by all means read the books but your biggest challenges wont be anything you or any book you read will expect. If you want to do ab MBA then reading is again interesting but all you are doing there - and this is echoed by many businessmen - is learning case studies in specific circumstances which will never happen again.

Businesses are more impressed by people who can think for themselves - not people who learn irrelevant case studies. The best MBAs have a unique way of analysing a situation and spotting potential pitfalls, etc. But the vast majority of people doing MBAs just learn the same old recycled shit that actually teaches them a little bit of basics but dont really teach them to think.


Like I said, it depends what you're into. You want to get a good finance job after you leave uni? You want to set up your own business? You want to become a management consultant? Or you just want some basic understanding of economics? If you want I can tell you how to do the next 3-7 years of your life so you are pretty much guaranteed a 100,000+bonus euro a year job by the time you finish that time.... If that's all you want, its pretty easy to do. You have to work hard and not be an idiot, that's all.
