Struggled? He was cool in his defensive tasks which I think should be the mainthing to focus on as a back in this system. We don't need any offensive wing backs now.

Except that he hasn't really had disasters apart from the Palermo incident. He's had mistakes but disasters would mean that he's fucked up 4 to 5 times in a game.
cagliari? St. Etienne? Verona? Napoli?

People blame him for the Verona game in not marking Toni, but no one blames Ranocchia for not marking Tevez in the Juve game.
because the situations are totally and completely comparable..

Also, the PKs called against him were BS, especially the Torino one, major dive from Quagliarella. Also, the clapping was a BS call, Sneijder got red for the same though, and people didn't blame him that much.
there's a reason why he's gone from our number one defender at the beginning of the season to basically our number5, before the half way point.. he's earned that demotion.

Myself.
I've said that podolski won't excel as a winger especially a winger in 4231 type of formation and we've seen today that he was barely seen rampaging on the left wing, he is a SS/CF not a winger. Playing as winger in 433 will be better where much creativity is a less burden for him and less workrate not 4231 where he is expected to help the wingers, run up and down and work hard to provide chances for strikers.

Poor Mancini : After Shaqiri's buying, no more money even for a small table. He had to write his notes on the ground, after the 3rd goal, for instance !:rollani:

Mancini on Guarin after the match: "Fredy has the physique to play central midfield. He has very specific attributes and it's not easy but he can do it. You need to use your brain in that role not just your physique. Pirlo and Verratti have shown that. So Hernanes could definitely play there too." :trollol:

If the team is balanced a quality defender like Vidic will play well it's not rocket science you can't expose your defence. However we have to admit that Genoa were pretty dreadful up front and there were a couple of times where we were caught out and if Genoa had someone on the second post we would have suffered. But overall that first half was great so I'm happy with that, avanti cosi!

Am I the only one who prefers Hernanes in the offensive position and Kovacic deeper?

I wouldn't trust Guarin, Kova, or Hernanes as a part of a 2 man midfield. Not sure why Mancini doesn't just play M'vila or even Krhin next to Medel.

Consider that today we played with a 4-2-4 because Palacio played much near Icardi...

With Kovacic as AM, we will play with a real 4-2-3-1 e we will have much more balance in the team.

It's really hard to say. Icardi did some great things, but also stuffed up multiple counter-attacking opportunities. Guarin almost made a classy assist but also was too slow to make decisions on about 5 other occasions. Handa made a very nice saves again. D'Ambrosio was very good again. Medel played a perfect first half. Palacio ran his ass off which was pivotal for Icardi. Vidic was good today too. Podolski showed his class on a number of occasions. Even Campagnaro was good today. The only starter that was poor was Hernanes.

I'd probably give to to Icardi for his goal+improved effort from a movement perspective, or to D'Ambrosio for being a model of consistency.

The difference between playing Palacio or Kova at AM is marginal. If we want balance we need some one next to Medel who has more of a defensive presence.

You are comparing Tevez and Luca Toni? :)

The mistake there was in positioning, where did I compare the quality in 2 players?

- - - Updated - - -

cagliari? St. Etienne? Verona? Napoli?

because the situations are totally and completely comparable..

there's a reason why he's gone from our number one defender at the beginning of the season to basically our number5, before the half way point.. he's earned that demotion.

So you also supported Mazzari when Taider played ahead of Kovacic? Like you say, there has to be a reason, right? A coach can never be wrong, so I assume you feel that way about all of Mazzari's decisions too?

The situations are comparable actually, as a team's main strikers need to be marked by the centrebacks, so it has to be either Juan's or Ranocchia's mistake that Tevez was alone? Or are you say it's not their job to track him?
