I stayed up to 3 in the morning to watch that, and well worth it. Excellent game, albeit with no goals. Unlucky Colombia, they held out well against an Argentina team with an embarrassment of riches up front. I'm glad we snapped up Murillo before last night, as a few clubs may have taken an interest after that performance. Shocking penalty though.

Muriel's PK pissed me off we put him in exclusively to take the Fing PK!! Should have kept Jackson. Way way way too many injuries for Colombia. All our DM and Cm players were injured. Glad this cup is over and great wake up call for the coach. Call the right players and ones playing well not your friends or guys that worked in the past. I can accept calling Zuniga and Falcao because of their potential to explode for us but he called over 10 guys who were injured for more then 3 months or haven't played since Jan. the Copa America failure is on him.

Playing shit friendlies against shit teams so Armero, Falcao, Zapata can get minutes was not the best move.

Seriously watching Colombia play this cup was like watching Inter when we kept all our Champ league winners for too long and just way past their prime.

Ramón Díaz

Ramón Díaz the Argentinian coach of the Paraguay NT that defeated Brazil in a penalty shootout last night was part of Inter 1988-1989 team that won the Scudetto beating Maradonas' Napoli in second place and Baresi, Maldini, Rijkaard, van Basten and Gullit's Milan in third place. Díaz was the second top scorer for Inter that season with 12 goals behind Aldo Serena with 22 goals.

Other notable members of that Inter team were Walter Zenga, Giuseppe Baresi, Giuseppe Bergomi, Andreas Brehme, Lothar Matthäus, Nicola Berti and Aldo Serena. Giovanni Trapattoni was the coach. That Inter team holds the record for most points in the 18 team (2 points per win) format with 58 points of 68 available for the season.

Milan won the European Cup (Champions League) that season.

Napoli won the UEFA Cup (Europa League) that season.

Basically that was one of the best seasons for Serie A ever.

A fun fact is that Ramón Díaz was Maradona's most hated rival, in fact Maradona stopped Carlos Bilardo (Argentina NT coach) from calling Díaz to the Italy 1990 World Cup.

Another fun fact is that the 4 teams in the Semifinals of Copa América are beaing coached by 4 Argentinians: Jorge Sampaoli (Chile), Ricardo Gareca (Perú), Gerardo Martino (Argentina) and Ramón Díaz (Paraguay).

No one is going to talk about brazil crashing out against paraguay once again in penalties? ok.

I just think it's shameful how they didn't show any reaction after such a bad world cup. They played like shit once again this tournament. Personally I take Neymar as the scapegoat since what he did was so awfully stupid that I can't go without putting most of the blame on him. My rage on him aside, the actual Brazil team is just really average except for 2-3 players. Which is the term for an average team nowadays anyway.

diaz only played for us for one season. also, those are just rumours that maradona "stopped" bilardo from calling him up. the player that everyone knows maradona and bilardo colluded against to not be at the world cup was daniel passarella, one of the greatest SA defnders of all time and captain of the '78 wc winning team. dude scored so many goals for a defender and he was a rock. to this day maradona still has a childish rivalry with him. passarella played for us but sadly well after his prime.

also, '89/'90 was a great season alright, but that was the era of sacchi's milan who were the best team in europe. this is off topic, but i just want to say i dont think they would have won the european cup so easily that year had they faced marseille, who didnt progress to the final ahead of eriksson's benfica, with one of the most controversial incidents of european football history. benfica scored the goal that put them in the final vs milan with the hand. they progressed on fucken away goals no less.

Brazil needs a forward to develop badly. It's almost shocking they don't have a world class, reliable striker/forward. Neymar needs a partner.

Apart from that, they played pretty good imo. Most plays broke down in the final offensive movement due to firmino not being a quality enough forward; especially given the physical nature of the copa (which i like). But their 1 and 2 touch offensive movements were overall very good. I thought Willian was excellent. Would have liked to see more of costa. Felipe Luis was also huge disappointment, being very timid and not offering a lot offensively and defensively.

It's funny that two of the biggest powerhouses in world football (Italy & Brazil) are having trouble scrapping up a decent forward. Even with a combined XI there wouldn't be a world class forward between them.

If only Diego Costa played for them. Would have been perfect #9 for players like Neymar.

How much Brazil could use Costa and a player like Thiago Alcantara. Can't remember the last world class passer in the Brazilian midfield, and wingers don't count. They could have even used Motta. Oh well Spain/Italy's gain.

Personally I think Emerson was underrated a lot. Most just saw him as a solid defensive midfielder with great tackling skills but they didn't realize how important he often was when it came to set up the strikers and wingers by his quick and precise passes. I'm not sure if I will categorize him as a world class passer but he was for sure close to be it.

juninho pernambucano was brazil's last world class playmaker/passer, excluding the lieks of dinho, kaka etc.

I would say Leonardo as well but he retired for 13 years ago which I think doesn't count as recently.

juninho was a lot more recent though, he only retired 2 years ago.

if we're going far back, you can mention leonardo, as well as rai, zico, falcao..

Ah you just changed your post Bandiera. Yes, I agree about Juninho. Emerson was not an attacking playmaker.

Yeah I agree on that aswell :)

So how is chocking a player not a yellow card.... I know its Vidal but WTF !!!

Also finger to the butt is 2 game suspension. Punching a guy for doing it is a 3 game suspension haha

South America is a FING JOKE !!

Does Zambrano of Peru ever not get red carded for Peru haha? I remember people saying he is a free agent and Inter wanted him....

This si how I remember that guy

but on a side note Why isn't Vidal carded yet? haha

PERU GETTING SO SCREWED

Vargas was offsides twice on his goal !!

Man where is Germany when you need them. FIFA PUT REPLAYS IN SOCCER !!! Too many teams get F"d because of BS plays or refs helping.

great game tbh, really enjoyable to watch. vargas, aránguiz, valdivia, pizarro, almost everyone stepped up their game today.
except maybe for alexis who was kind of disappointing in the second half.

really happy for pizarro, 35 years old and still bossing :notbad:

also that red card was more than deserved
