If it does get to the point that Perez refuses to meet him and hides rather than speaking to the man, then yes I can see Modric getting fed up and submitting an official transfer request to the club as is his right.

However that's not what's happening, the meeting just hasn't taken place yet because they are in different countries at the moment, they will likely meet before the week is out and all going well, Perez meets with Ausilio afterwards.

Kova moving in the next 24hrs will tell us everything we need to know. If he ends up at Chelsea we can kiss luka goodbye.

I don't believe for a second that if Modric left, that Madrid would simply slot Kovacic into his starting spot. Kovacic is still not ready to be a starter, even here, let alone at Real Madrid. I don't think the club has that kind of confidence in him. Either way, apparently the meeting between Perez and Modric didn't happen for whatever that's worth.

It's today evening, the meeting. Nothing stops Perez from offering Modric 15m€ a season. Then it's end of it.

Not happening, the only decent transfers we get are ones where the rumours start and within a day he's in milan.

I find it hard to believe all of this is just over a 3m raise...

He earns less than 7m€ atm. So if that's like doubled by Perez he might as well stay. Move to Inter is after all a move from a great team to a worse team.

15mil in 4 years? That would be irrational of him to both raise salary and extend the contract.

What do you know anything about Modric's motivations? :D Money works for most of the players so I think that's the safest bet. What we do know is that Inter supposedly have offered 10m€ per for four years. Let's see if Perez matches and/or raises that and what Modric does then.

And why wouldn't he want to win it again? I'd absolutely love to see him here but if he turned us down and said he wants to go with his best chance of another CL medal and take a big pay rise with it, I wouldn't hold it against him.

Exactly, would be the most logical thing to do. Hope his motivation is somewhere else now (Inter!).

if modric comes to italy, he will only pay 100 k euros per year on all the money earned from abroad, which for a player means all or most of the income from image rights.

this italian law (number 232 of year 2016) applies to whomever hasn't lived in italy for the past ten years, so for instance it wouldn't apply to kovacic.

so it is probably also about money. i personally don't care much about this, but it might be one of the reasons why he wants to come. he would instantly double the money earned from image rights.

check this for reference (google translated): https://translate.google.com/transl...ano-ronaldo-tasse-juventus-italia/&edit-text=

Players earn money from their image when they are still active on the field. After that, they have to leave the stage to younger stars. Just think about it, you retire around 35-38 of age. This is when many other types of profession reach their height (in term of creativity/maturity). And you still have a long long life to live and perhaps you will have to start a new career, learning new things. Money is important but money becomes much more important for a 31-33-year-old soccer player. This is the last chance for an old star like Modric to earn something big that would very rarely happen after their retirement. This is the individual part.

Can Real double his salary? Yes, they can. But for what? Does Perez really want 32-year-old Modric that much so that he would keep him without thinking twice about the cost? Would he consider collective issues (other players would play the same trick for a salary increase)? I believe that he wants to sell but at a better price (the current 15+25 formula is an insult to him). I am not saying that the deal will happen, just saying there is a high chance for this to happen. However, Inter is taking advantage too much of the individual motivation and underestimate the capability of a club like Real Madrid.

I don't disagree anything you said. It's like that. Maybe by today evening already we may know.

I love the argument that top football players retire at 35ish compared to the regular folk. By that time, they earn around 300 years worth of salary, so an average person has to work for around 150 years just to have a similar standard of living as a retired top player that doesn't get an extra income (leaving aside investing his assets at the age of retirement).

Just because most are stupid with their money and waste it, it doesn't mean that they are doomed. I do agree that everyone does and should look to maximize their income, at any age.

The thing is that Modric 32 (soon 33) is not that important puzzle of the new Real Madrid (future). He might feel not respected enough after winning 3 CLs and wants a new challenge.

You are the voice of wisdom, here!
All the players are retired at 35-38y. And for an average european man with a living expectation shy of 80y in western Europe, with this money he need to live like 40y. They are a few who become trainers, work in teams management or tv analysts.
It's enough! Of course, it's way more than the average Joe will earn all his life. But a crisis, a bad investment or bad luck can change all of this. And nearly none would be serene if his living standard goes south.
At the end of the day, money will speak also for Modric. What Perez think is another discussion.
And by the way, 15+25 is not an insult. We can debate if it is a fair price or not.

Just wanted to add that Modric turns 33 in September and offering him 15m means over 200% of his current salary. But agree, they can afford it.
