As much as I like Handa he definitely started showing his age for at least the past 2 seasons. He is so incredibly slow when he gets the ball and needs to distribute. Doesnt matter if he just needs to pass to a defender, put the ball out or just long pass. He is slow as shit and to me it looks like his decision making time keeps increasing, it got to the point it just makes me mad seeing him fart around with the ball.
He is still a strong and experienced GK with a couple years left if he chooses to keep playing but not first choice for us.
As for Onana .... Big boy, big reflexes and one of the better options out there but some of the shit he pulls will just pop a vein in your head. I remember him casually dribbling an attacker, actually going past him then losing the ball because he was just fucking around ( too lazy to look for the video im sure its easy to find ).

tbh he's also not really been *that great* under pressure on the ball. he's learned to do it with Conte and Inzaghi, but I think a more ball playing keeper which apparently Onana is, would do better?

Yeah he was always just decent at most when it came to playing the ball and that was somewhat improved when Conte took over.
Onana is a better GK when it comes to passing and dealing with the ball at his feet under pressure. But I did see him come out far into no mans land quite a few times for no apparent reason and also trying to dribble. Pretty sure Serie A is not really the league to do that kinda crap.

Handanovic as the 2nd keeper would be very important to have. He would ease the pressure on Onana a lot, giving advice when needed, specially as he's the captain (and will be former captain) and his presence on the locker room will be important (given he's the type of person who's okay with being downgraded from 1st keeper and captain to 2nd keeper with no captain armband).

i thought african cup was moving to summer after this year?
Depends on the weather patterns of the host nation. The idea is where possible to play june/July. South and eastern Africa easy to do. North is a problem due to heat and West has their big rains at that time.

Handa said in an interview before the season or in first weeks that he will stop playing when he feels like he cant improve anymore and he feels like he's still got some years left. So yea, i dont think he will stay to be a backup, when he can go to a team that will fight for something like a 3-7th place.

I've got a mate that lives in Amsterdam and supports Ajax.

He messaged this morning and said "Andre Onana is gonna give you some heart attacks".

The first question I have is why would we get Handanovic offside for someone who is unproven in Serie A?

I do not know if it is true or not, but I have read that we are offering him a five year contract. I have never heard of a player being offered a five year contract. Which brings me back to my first question, why would we offer that kind of contract to an untested Serie A keeper?

Is the answer to both my questions that he was available for free?
Untested? Guy has proven himself at champions league and international level. Has won african goalkeeper of the year, eredivisie team of the year, African team of the year.

As for the heart attack comment that has to do with onana's style. He plays sweeper keeper like neuer. So occasionally it goes wrong but it also allows him to prevent chances before they happen.

He has more CL games experience than Handanovic does :D aand he's more than a decade younger!

I actually think Handanovic is underrated with his feet, he has improved A LOT in that aspect. And to do it so late in his career to keep with the way football is played now. I give him a lot of kudos for that, but yes Onana is more comfortable. He’s been raised playing with his feet more then Handa.

Handa is still better with his feet then Donnaruma though which is surprising given the generational gap.

I’m very grateful for what Handanovic has done for Inter. There were some truly dark days in the banter era where he single handily won us points.

However, there were also a lot of days where he compounded those issues or flat out created them. He wasn’t exactly the best goalkeeper for a mentally fragile side as there were plenty of times he capitulated right a long with the rest of them. And this was in his prime.

In recent years he’s gotten more steady as the team has gotten more steady. Perhaps the captaincy also helped. Unfortunately the mistakes in recent times are starting to look more like age and less like mentality. The fact that guys like him, Miranda, and Palacio spent some of their best years in a shitty Inter sides will always be a shame.
I disagree about Miranda. When he joined Inter, he was 31 and he was getting benched by Gimenez at Atletico. His decline had started and he wasn't good enough for the top level anymore. A move to a lesser club than Atletico (level wise) at the time was the necessary step to become a starter again. Miranda was great for Inter and i still have a soft spot for him but the version we saw at Inter was far from his best.

Skriniar
The goal was a fault of Skriniar/DeVrij . Handanovic missed it... but in fact he has the same chance to catch that ball vs facing Immobile 1 on 1 (I would say even higher) ... So I don't take it as a fault.

it's all 3's fault. Just shows u, you have to be careful all the time. Skriniar should also have fallen, then perhaps VAR would do whats right, as he was pulled by Immobile.

yeah he had two options because defense was rendered useless. stay at line and face immobile 1v 1 or take risk and get to the ball while being on back foot who took the risk and almost got it
