Uh oh...

6) MILAN v Liverpool 2005 – Manuel Mejuto Gonzalez

Milan’s collapse in the 2005 Champions League final against Liverpool, having been 3-0 up at half time, is still hard to believe some five years on. But, would it have happened had referee Gonzalez not awarded Liverpool a penalty for a clear Steven Gerrard dive?

Having fought back to 3-2 through goals from Vladimir Smicer and Gerrard, the Englishman charged in the area and went down under pressure from Rino Gattuso. Replays showed that the Liverpool legend had conned Gonzalez. Xabi Alonso scored the rebound after his penalty was saved, and the Reds would go on to win the Champions League on penalties.

Thats bullshit, Gerrard didn't dive for that penalty, I've seen that game at least 10 times, it was a penalty.

There is no conspiracy with this ref against Italian sides.

Walter Samuel,
Dunno. That's in the article at football-italia.net

Probably the after effects of the Samp match.

Anybody has the details?

Yeh that's what i think it is. However, i think they trained with the rest of the side of the team this morning so they should be fine.

That is your opinion mate. Please do not say it is definitely a penalty, because in my opinion, there is no way that is a penalty.

Why would he have dived, if he wasn't tripped he was rolling the ball in bottom corner. Makes no sense to dive when you have a chance for a tap in.

How many times i've had to listen to my Milanista and Liverpool friends argue about that. But I also don't think it was penalty

Javier Zanetti,
If the referee screw up the game, then I am gonna find a way to get his email and send him a nice message just like I did to that poor Susy of calcio italia.

He should be careful because the fans cannot tolerate any more mistakes or else he will leave the stadium without his head.

Thats where you are wrong...Check out the other defender coming in. If he would have stayed on his feet, the other Milan defender would have took the ball off him...

What ever man...the point is, please do not act as if every single person agrees it was a penalty. It was considered one of the most controversial calls in CL finals history, so I really don't see how you can think it was a clear penalty...

I think this season the Inter team are becoming like Team Wolverines. 9 men vs Milan, vs Sampdoria and standing tall at the end of the matches. Against Bari and Sienna we fought like champions to get back from behind. When a team go through this not once but four times already, it gives them great confidence in their ability to overcome all odds.

Notice how Mourinho makes a good point of emphasising "we will not lose even if down to 9 men, we will lose only down to 6". He is instilling self belief in the team, the belief that they are indestructible. When the team internalise this mental state, they will also believe that they can beat anyone. Maybe that's what the team has been missing all these years. The steel in them called self belief.

You should really join us in the Inter - Sampdoria forum and have fun sending a :D valentine message :D to her because Susy is a Bilan bitch. You will really get irritated if you read one of her anti-inter articles.

Utter nonsense was a 100% Dive.

In addition, as much as i hate to admit it first half Milan were incredible boys vs men stuff....and it seemed destined for liverpool after
a) the almighty collapse of milan in 10 minutes
b) dida mistake on 2nd goal
c) the non existant pen
d) the fact the pen was saved, then rebounded in
e) shevchenko glaring miss (which in my opinion is more of a tap in than gerrards dive that you claim) was saved.

Sometimes its just all about luck, and on that night luck favoured pool

To be perfectly honest, this is the first time I've heard anyone say it was a dive. Here in Ireland Liverpool fans are outnumbered probably 2-1 by Man U fans, not once have I heard any of them say it was a dive. I'm acting like everyone thinks it was a penalty because I have never heard the decision being questioned before.

I've just looked at it again, Gattuso trips and pushes him, the other defender is about 5 yards from Gerrard, the ball would've been at his feet, he woulda scored. I'm truly mystified as to how you think it was a dive.

That was the greatest comeback in CL history and possibly the greatest night of my life as a football fan. So for you to say it was part of a referee's conspiracy against Italian teams is pissing me off big time.
