There is a smart saying in football:
"You can play only the way your opponent let you play".
Barcelona fans know this all too well, and the reminder of that, they got in the weekend. They play great, but if the opponent is briliant tacticaly, closes the spaces, pack the midfield, then even the "galactic" Barcelona can't do squat. (chances wise, not possesion wise)
I'm afraid that's simply not true. There's a couple of things wrong with trying to play "like Espanyol". 1, I doubt the ref will allow us to literally kick the shit out of them, without giving us yellow cards along the way.
2, There's no way we can keep up that kind of tempo for the full 90 minutes, and therefore around the 70th we'll be dead tired and they'll score for sure, which is most likely what would of happened if they wouldn't of been reduced to ten men.
3, Barca no doubt had the Inter match in mind and didn't want to pick up any uneccesary injuries.
Also they didn't play with Ibra, so whenever they did get pressured and had to hoof it, there was nobody to hoof it to. With Ibrahimovic there even if we pressurize them ferociously, a nice percentage of the time they'll still end up higher up pitch with possession.
And another thing: they played a very strange formation with Maxwell up top with Pedro and Messi. I doubt they'll play such an unusal formation against us. That can't be underestimated either.
I'm afraid that if Barca play their best game there's little we can do to stop them from keeping possession. And if you think there is, just using the Espanyol match as an example, you're mistaken.
This is what this game will be all about, and this is why Arsenal was crashed by Barcelona, even though Arsenal has twice the speed, the creativity, the "youth" throughout their ranks than we do, and this is exactly why most likely we won't be crashed. Unliked the mentioned Arsenal.
You're absolutely in dreamland. I don't know if you're trying to psyche yourself up or if you really believe what you're writing but most likely we'll be outplayed, dominated and lose.
The question is, will Inter let Barcelona play they way they do, or not ? Because we all know how Barcelona play, and there will be nothing new about that. They also keep a certain level, and rarely they play below some level.
Nah, the question is will Barcelona play to the best of their ability or not. If not they'll still keep a vast majority of the possession but we'll have a few more chances at goal. If they do, this game will look much like the first time we played them, except they'll most likely score this time around.
It is all down to Inter, and the deffensive masterpiece. Barcelona is worlds great in playing offense, but italians know other way of art too. And this is the the art of deffense.
You have almost a ridiculous amount of faith Luka. If they beat us most likely it won' be because we employed the wrong gameplan, but because we simply lost to a better team. For us to beat them they need to have a bad day, that's just the way it is.
If at the end of the day, Inter will win, and Barcelona with 70% of ball possesion will look like they are just banging with their heads against the wall, our job was done.
And the world will praise our 30%. Not Barcelonas 70%.
That I can agre with though. Results is what matters in the end. To get those results our best strategy should be to sit back, shrink spaces and focus on counterattacks, not run ourselves tired by trying to pressurize them, because most likely it won't work anyway. Shrink spaces, park the bus, and play the right players, i.e Balotelli over Pandev. That should be our gameplan.
