Since the Champions League format switched to the current one in 2003-04, there has never been more than one German team in the Quarterfinals.

There used to be only 3 major leagues in England, Italy, Spain. It is fair to put Germany up there but until teams other than Bayern can consistently make it to knockout rounds, I don't think they deserve to have four spots. Every so often Leverkusen, Stuttgart, Schalke, Dortmund make it to knockouts but it is never on a consistent year to year basis like what happens in the other three leagues. Historically speaking, the bundesliga is Ligue 1 plus Bayern Munich.
