We have DeVrij, Acerbi, Bisseck, Pavard and Bastoni. Sometimes Darmian can also play right or left back. Basically, 6 defenders for 3 spots. We just need a goalie and right WB.

Pavard would never work well as the centre of a 3 man defence, he also makes too many personal errors for that. Bisseck is questionable but might eventually be used as back up, but would still be better at where he currently used, same goes for Bastoni.

In other words we need a replacement, De Vrij will either leave this or the next season as he wants to finish his carrier back home while he still have a high enough level, either way we have one more season with him, that’s it, next season he is up for replacement.

I also doubt Acerbi has more than one more season left in him as a starter, there are very few players that has the level to be relevant at 40, so it doesn’t really make a strong case. He turn 37 next season, it’s just not all that likely he keeps on much longer. We are also going to have the most dense packed schedule next season ever, 6 defenders simply is not going to cut it, especially as few are of an advancing age.

Darmian looked anything but convincing for quite some time now, truth be told I doubt he has much more to give.

I would sell Dumfries. Get that RWB Nagatomo regen and use the rest of that money on Bento

You never know. Maybe Marotta and company negotiate 1 mil more for Dumfries and he stays. 5 mil is not bad, he is still young. Zielinski coming in at 4.5 Dimarco makes 3.5 net. Pavard is at 5. If we give raise to Dumfries, then we have to give a raise to Dimarco. Let's see how it goes.

Since when has Pavard turned into a left back also he describe himself as a central defender that can play right back? and we don’t play with a right or left back as such, we play with a 3 man back line with the outer having full back overlap duties in the offensive play and two wingback, which Pavard does not play.

But Pavard can’t really do the center role in a 3 man back line, it’s not really playing him to strength. Our team would also loose too much on the offensive side playing Bastoni there as well. Bisseck is also questionable in that position as it currently stands. We have two De Vrij and Acerbi that are well suited for that role. We don’t have the cover as the other two positions where we have 3-4 players that can play there, playing any other there is a risk and tend to disturb the balance of the team. We need that third coverage in the longest season we have yet to ever play.

Again Acerbi is 36 and De Vrij is 32, also It might not be bad getting one that actually can run while we are at it. Getting one of those injured which isn’t unrealistic (you know De Vrij) mean the other would play on end, having that third player make us far less vulnerable and give us a period to integrate the player.

When you have old players then you run the risk of their form falling off a cliff suddenly and sharply. I think Inter have too many in the backline to be satisfied with the current group going into the new season and it makes sense that it's an aerially dominant stopper to play in the middle of the back three. The current defence does not defend high crosses and set pieces especially well and that needs to be something to improve.

Probably the most aerially dominant player they have currently is Bisseck, but it seems a shame to put him in the centre in a more static role when he has shown that he's really effective carrying the ball forward.
