Absolute f*cking legend. Perhaps the only English players that I've ever liked. He has the perfect attitude that all footballer in this world should have. Never creates trouble, never whines, never give half-@ss effort and stayed loyal to his boyhood club instead of joining Man Utd.

Ashkan, I'd never understand your dislike towards him. He has all the attitude you'd love our players to have, doesn't he? ;)

Yeah, I have always liked Shearer, the highlight for me was in 95 when he led Blackburn to beating ManU for the title. I can't explain it, but beating ManU back then was tougher than beating the present Chelsea, they were a well-oiled machine.

Shearer would have been a bigger legend had England won Euro 96. They were incredible in that tournament, and I for once was cheering for them and it was being held in England. However, as one commentator said, 'only if Gascoign's boots were a bit bigger'.

(The story behind that was in the Englnad-Germany game in the Semi's. England were the better side, and Gascoigne had a perfect chance to score. He slid with his boots, but he just barely missed making contact. A slight contact would have lead to a goal, which would have meant a certain trophy since the oppostion was Czech Republic.)

Also, Shearer has an incredible fighting back spirit. He had a worse injury with Blackburn (I belive) and still came back. And yeah, he is a legend for overlooking ManU and joining his boyhood club instead of taking a short-cut to glory.

The really bad injury he had was in his early Newcastle days, he was out for around a season I think, was the ligaments in his knee.. Probably a more severe version of the injury he has now.

It’s all about his style of play and as I said his goal celebration which IMO is truly annoying ;)
Further, having lived here for a long time now, I do know that he is good lad and all that, but in terms of playing style he did never cut it for me.
And yes, I surely admire his fighting spirit, superb on that front. He should perhaps come and teach a thing or two to our sissies. ;)

LOLZ shame on all of you, for not mentioning Figo in this thread. His was class and quality, and even right now tries to give his best for us. A big up to him :star:

About Shearer, yeah maybe the only english player that I respect, ok respect is such a strong word!!. Er, that I accept as a player :p . I know about his EPL seasons when he used to get 35 goals in his Blackburn and his intial days of Newcastle carrear. But then again, EPL was not really that strong back then. And to tell you the truth, Shearer is not put in the same category as Figo, Zidane, Maldini or even Henry.

I would even put Raul as a living legend :D

Yeah Katie, I dug around and the most serious injury was indeed with Newcastle. The one with Blackburn cost him half-as-season only.

Also, when I was digging, I found out that he also turned down ManU when he left Southamton in 1992, so that's two times. Nothing against ManU, but the guy isn't a glory or money hunter. Too bad such players are extinct now.

And Shah, I don't if there are stats or not, but I disagree that the EPL was weaker then. In fact, I think it was better, and there was less of the 'chaotic' soccer style going around these days. It was surely more fun to watch back then.

Manchester United back in 1992 was a simple team, something like Tottenham this year, but they moved on and became who they are now ;)

Well, for some it's easy, when they control the league and refs... But "fortunately" Italy had been divided, so not too much corruption was caused by one club, and the corruption of the others was limited...
Football started to become really corrupted since early 90's. It used to have some incidents, but after that it became a serious problem.
