well, thats a bit more complicated.
the overall formation and tactical implementation is mourinho style. no one will argue that, and thats one of the main drivers for the comparisons. another driver is also the managing style he uses.
so, we'll summarize. last season we see something like:
di gennaro
pecorini spendlhofer kysela mbaye
crisetig duncan
romano bessa livaja
.. longo
now, from a general set up, it starts to look very different. duncan plays a more of a cambiasso-cum-guarin role, rather than just the defensive shield, using his power to push up. crisetig plays the main distributor, in the shape of someone like xavi, romano plays as an iniesta style player, livaja plays as eto'o, longo is the direct milito comparison, and bessa is the most interesting one. he certainly cant simply be classified as a sneijder - infact it was very different. in all but something like the sporting and ajax game, inter dominate. completely dominate. very rarely did we use the efffective counter attacking method, but rather, it was an overload of play and letting bessa pull out some brilliance.
bessa is hard to describe. maybe the easiest description for him is ronaldinho the play maker - not ronaldinho the inside forward. he's always looking for the through ball, or the no look pass, or the little gap in defence to give longo or livaja space. he's also lethal in his own right, offering a lot of danger from set pieces and in and around the box. if he can transfer his talent to the first team, he could well go down in history as one of the best playmakers. the vision he exercises is phenomenal, his ability to do everything - whether passing, dribbling under pressure, scoring - is phenomenal. we just have to hope we can see it on the first team level.
many of the mourinho comparisons are valid, in terms of the formation, the bonding with players, the research into opponents, the results, some of the counter attacking games against the bigger teams, but also on the other hand he uses a ery different style of play, one relying on brilliant midfielders overloading possession, as well as a brilliant playmaker who can create spaces for other players - which is not somethig sneijder does anywhere near as well, sadly - and pose a significant threat in his own right.
