zanetti retired at the right time, which means one minute before becoming pathetic. had he stayed one more year, it would have been sad.

I also don't buy JZ retired because Mazzarri didn't play him. He ain't Totti who bitches about not playing.

You don't really know that, the guy was never really benched for the entirety of his career until his last season lol.

It wasn't a coincidence Javier Zanetti retired while Esteban Cambiasso, Diego Milito and Walter Samuel left the club at the same time. The fantastic 4 were forced their way to leave the team. I remember Ranocchia had the captain armband for few matches before JZ retired. I even put it as a signature here in FIF saying Inter Captain: 4+19=23.

It was clear to me, at least, that all 4 of them were offered to leave the club, Javier Zanetti decided to retire. He had the injury and he was going strong about making a comeback yet he retired that season.

You are mistaken. He retired at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Captains that season:

Cambiasso: 29
Samuel: 5
Zanetti: 5
Nagatomo: 1
Ranocchia: 1

Ranocchia was captain for 1 match and guess which one that was? Coppa Italia vs. Trapani lol

This was our starting lineup that match:

Carrizo; Ranocchia, Andreolli, J. Jesus; Wallace, Guarin, Mudingayi, Taider, Pereira; Kovacic, Belfodil.

No Zanetti, no Cambiasso, no Samuel, no Nagatomo. That is why Ranocchia was chosen.

Every day I wake up and check this thread to see if he is gone.......

It's not the best way to start someone's day....... Still hoping Sassulo buys or takes him on loan.

I am pretty sure there was a match when jz was subbed out and ranocchia took the armband.

He should have stayed for another season and do a sideline role like delpiero in his last days at juventus. The only thing was his salary and the rumour about asado clan owned the dressing room.

They retired because they were old and over the hill. The fact that the management couldn't replace them doesn't mean they should have stayed, it means Inter are run by a bunch of incompetent idiots.

I m sure cambiasso would have been useful for another season. But to let go all leaders at the same time would be disaster. We ended with a bunch of headless players instantly. Imagine now buffon, chiellini and barzagli leave juventus at the same time.. They will end up in a mess. However, i agree that we were run by incompetent idiots, especially a president who runs a football club like a basketball club.

Again, probably because Cambiasso or Samuel was not on the pitch.

So Inter have turned Cambiasso-Samuel-Zanetti into Medel-Ranocchia-Nagatomo. Now that is sad.

I don't understand what any of you fuckers are talking about.

I've long believed that Zanetti was uncomfortably and awkwardly pressured into retirement. In between Thohir going on and on about Zanetti becoming a director and Mazzarri somehow preferring Jonathan, I think Zanetti just kinda went along with it. As far as the others go, it was definitely right for Samuel and Milito to move on, but I remember Ausilio distinctly saying that the club had made the decision not to renew Cambiasso's contract. That was fucking stupid. It was (and somehow still is) a transitional phase for the club, having at least one senator to help keep a lid on this bullshit would have been helpful.

No doubt in my mind that Zanetti didn't want to retire. But he saw the writing on the wall:

-Mazzarri's continual refusal to play Zanetti
-Thohir kept saying things like 'when JZ retires, I'm going to have him learn English' or 'when JZ retires, he will make a great director'
-Thohir also kept saying that we would only have a certain number of players above 30, and it was obvious Zanetti was not being counted as part of that
-When the club announced his retirement, JZ didn't say anything about it himself for several days
-Given the departures of Samuel, Milito, and Cambiasso, it's clear that the management was trying to clear out the senators
