do what juve did with ronaldo - sponsorship directl yto him from the parent company. Suning could give him a 60m a year contract to endorse their products and inter pays him 10m a year.

Infact this is MASSIVELY tax favourable, I thought international income is only taxed up to a limit of like 300k in Italy? Cafe do you remember the specifics?

Sorry, I don't have a clue about international income tax thing. I've only tried to get on touch with Growth Decree thing.

i dont know the barca sponsorship structure to know how closely tied it is to messi, tbh. I assume they dont have many deals that coincidentally run out this year - if not, then they'll have cash to splash for a while. I thought someone said Messi held 100% of his image rights, too? Obviously Messi leaving WILL dent Barca, but it wont necessairly be overnight

Messi owns 100% of his image rights, how Inter/Suning can actually make money out of him? If Messi gets a piece of everything where his image is being used, I don't exactly know how it's going to work then.

found it

https://www.dlapiper.com/en/italy/i...-tax-incentives-for-attracting-human-capital/

Read the res-non-dom section.

It sounds like it's either or with the growth decree, but that to mean just says Inter will give Messi like a 5-10m a year contract, Suning will give him loads of international money, and his existing non-italian sponsorships will stick. In this case, he pays regular income tax on his Inter income, but everything else he can waive ALL TAX LIABILITY for 100k euros a year (is my read)

LOL.

Depending on his non-salary income, that might be like 40million reasons to come to Inter.

tbh i find it disgusting and corrupt. It's shocking. But it's Italy.

probably more generally increased sponsorship for the club, looking for a 'halo' effect... plus, he'll just help the brand. Imagine how many more Inter shirts are gonna get sold because of Messi, for example. Suree, they might not make much money for Inter in the short term, but how many more people watched Inter because of Ronaldo for example?

Well, he didn't sue the Chinese channel owned by Suning of him promoting the Inter-Napoli game, did he? That's also part of the "image rights" issue. They did remove it, but there's no evidence to suggest that Messi lawyered up for that to be removed :D

Also, owning your image rights doesn't mean that no one else can benefit from having you advertising. Why do you think he still has sponsors? These image rights that are speicfied on contracts are entirely related to "Player as a part of the Team". Not exclusively the image rights of the person, but under his capacity of a part of the roster.

So Messi's salary is something like 25m net, he gets like another 25m on loyalties and a figure of around 10m on image rights. So effectively Barcelona is paying Messi this amount so that he can promote Barcelona, not the other way around. If he owned 50%, then they'd pay him 5m and the other 5m they'd keep for example. Image rights isn't that big of a deal. It can be a huge number (and it is) but in this specific case all that matter is the base salary and the latest trend is the loyalties. I think he also has 15m bonuses in case they win the league, he becomes top scorer in either of the two big competitions, they win the CL, he wins the World Cup, Ballon d'Or etc.

If Suning for example becomes Messi's sponsor, it won't affect his "image rights" deal with Inter. Teams do not sign sponsorship deals with their players, hence why "image rights" are necessary for both parties. Usually teams milk their players, but when they are bigger stars and own most or all of their image rights, they get well paid and essentially all it does is not allow clubs to parade them around with little economic benefit for them. If we want to make a couple of videos of him, we're not going to pay him for example. But if a club sponsor wants some players and he's one of them, then we'll end up giving him a bigger slice of the action than if he hadn't owned 100%. That's also negotiable every time, but there's no point in having an argument with the guy over this one. It's nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Honestly, this tax thing only makes it possible for Inter to even be in the contest. City and PSG can just pay whatever he asks.

I wouldn't rule Manchester United 100% out. Adidas is their kit sponsor and Messi is Adidas' number one athlete.

yeah. if it wasnt for the league and the tax situation, inter would even be remotely in the running.

I still do find it interesting that Balague didnt mention Inter at all in that article.

Thank you, well explained. Didn't have time to figure it out around my head how it actually works.

Let's be hopeful, this is the only thing that will wash the absurdity of what happened today.
You are indeed living in lala land. Every person and paper wishing Inter bad wanted Conte to leave. Despite his flaws, he is our best chance to grow next season and dethrone jube. The only absurdity today is thinking the coach staying at Inter for more than a year with clear progress shown is absurd.

The only thing that would drive him to Inter is Papa Zhang fulfilling his promise. We can pull the deal, but Suning must show that they want to as well. Behaving like weaklings against Conte has thrown me off regarding their ambition.
What the fuck you're talking about. You have some transcript of that meeting? You know crap what went on there and what was the whole fuss about.

TBH Balague is terrible with transfer rumours.
is he? He's more inside in Spanish football than, as far as I know, any pundit is in Italy...

Yeah, let's talk about Messi in Messi thread and leave the off-topic quarrels to on-topic threads.

if Barto does resign, does this mean messi doesnt leave? I guess not since he seems to have issue with Koeman too?

Rumour says that Bartomeu will resign.

If this is true, what a power move by Messi.

Assumptions Bartomeu really resigns and Messi stays. How will he be viewed that he had to threaten to quit to get new elections now? How will he be viewed if he overturns his decision to leave?
