I will only say one thing about the game.

I knew we would lose the moment we had Acerbi (as LCB!!!!), Darmian and Mkhitaryan playing extra time in round of 16 in the Champions League.

Dude Atletico is a shit team and clearly not an elite team. With away goal rule we would've been through.

The only thing they had over us is that the 2nd tie was in their home ground.
We chose to give that advantage to whatever opponent by not treating one of half of the group stage matches as serious (2x Sociedad, Benfica), by fielding our backup even though they arent good enough.

The blame is all on us.

The Spanish league sup the top is equally rubbish and so is the German league, it’s because Spain unlike Italy have a handful of clubs who actually have cash. This is really the difference maker. The EPL is just levels above everything else much of the same reason

Lol, what are you even talking about?
Even outside the top 3 (Atleti, Real and Barca) they have good teams constantly rotating for the 4th spot and winning European cups.

Money is not everything. We finished second (And deservedly so) to a team based solely on their home grown talents ffs.

Suddenly people are looking to blame a game played in December. If we didn't get Atletico it might've been PSG, would that be much better?
PSG is the only strong team from 2nd spots and ATM is the least tough pick from 1st. Take your probability.

And you know the group top is getting the home second advantage, right?

So what? We scored a goal and then conceded an incredibly stupid goal and the whole team collapsed collectively. Why would you look for the root of the problem in December? All of this happened tonight.

Yes it was the worst match I've seen Inter play in a while. The Genoa and Bologna matches were lucky and nail biters as well. Atletico was at home, more inspired, had more poise than Inter. Inter, played pretty much the entire match uncharacteristically, result a loss. Kudos to Atletico, hopefully they get Arsenal and beat them to a pulp.

The problem isnt being eliminated. We can face the toppers later and still lose. But the key word is "later". One more extra round costs tens of millions.

We weren't at our best in the group stage because

1) we prioritized the Scudetto, and we needed to pile up points so that now we can be where we are at the table

2) The group was low key tough, no matter how it looks at first glance. If you have three teams that are tough to beat, like Sociedad, Benfica and Salzburg it's tricky. Those are 6 exhausting difficult games. Switch one of Benfica or Salzburg in our group in 2022/2023 for Victoria Plzen and we could've not progressed back then.

Context matters, so if you bring up the group stage you need to see the factors influencing Inter finishing narrowly second back then.

Yesterday or two days ago @.h. said the same thing many of you say after we fucked up. We didn`t take a big scalp (very nice said) since 2011 (Bayern to be more precise). Even last year, we march to the final without knocking out any big team - Milan is a big name, not a big team anymore. Porto and Benfica the same.
And @.h. was eaten alive - @Brehme beeing the most vocal.

Yes, CL is not for beggars. We have a squad made from a few good players we developed (Lataro, Barella, Bastoni) plus a combos of free agents and old farts. Pavard is the exception from what should be an important contingent in a team who want to fight in the upper echelon of CL. And it was him with a monumental brainfart.

If that is the case, how is it on Inzaghi that we didn't win CL last year?

This precisely. People were crying last year that we lost scudetto despite making it to CL final saying that they didn't give a fuck about CL if we can't win it. This is why I hate when people move the goal post, the objective was always to win the Scudetto and Inzaghi has done exactly that. Maybe if we had done better in group stage we wouldnt be this comfotable in serie A.

Going far in CL was just the cherry on top, unfortunately the cherry fell today but to me the season is still a success.

This is a forum lol. There are people who prefer Serie A and critise our bad performances in those threads. Those who like CL more and this is the correct place to discuss fuckups.

What do you expect? Shut the forum down after winning a Scudetto?

Come on, Dzeko is 38yo. Do you think you can fight in 2 competitions with a geriatric grandpa as one o your main strikers?
