A player can participate in U21 tournaments he played qualification matches in, he obviously has to be 21 or younger when the qualifiers starts. No overaged players are allowed like in the Olympics.

Example:

Viviano was born December 1, 1985, he turned 22 December 1, 2007.

The qualifiers for the 2009 European U21 Championship started June 6, 2007, when Viviano was 21.

The Olympics has different rules that doesnt apply in the real football world. In the Olympics the players has to be under 23 the day the main tournament starts, with the exception of 3 overaged players.

Alright, so let's wait for Lippi to call him up in the friendley against Brasil next week.

Buffon is always injured and getting old. It would be a nice chance for Viviano.

This probably means Toldo will leave in the summer.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano Relishing Inter Chance

The Nerazzurri have signed the Brescia custodian in a co-ownership deal and he cannot wait to start his new adventure.

Inter managed to complete the signing of former Italy Under-21 goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano from Serie B side Brescia in a co-ownership deal on transfer deadline day.

The Via Durini directors reportedly paid €3.5 million for access to the custodian’s rights and the 23-year-old is expected to join Jose Mourinho’s ranks in time for the start of next season.

“Inter signed me in a co-ownership agreement,” Viviano explained on Tuttomercatoweb. “We will see what happens next June.

“However, it is a great honour for me that a prestigious club like Inter came after me. Moreover, I will have to replace [Francesco] Toldo, who is a real legend. It truly is a dream come true.”

Viviano was born in Tuscany and is a Fiorentina youth product, however, he has been at Brescia since 2005 and is set to reach the important milestone of 100 appearances for the Rondinelle this season.

Most likely. Toldo wouldn't accept the number 3 spot imho. Its probably time to move on for Francesco. He has been a great servant but he wants to be able to play in his last season/2 seasons of football??

Personally I am very happy with this signing.

Orlandoni should stay: he accept the 3rd choice-role and he is club-trained.

I don't see many reasons to get Viviano next summer to Inter. He wouldn't play much just like Toldo now. But that's the opposite what he should do, play. I hope the co-ownership deal was done because he will stay at Empoli and at some point he will be promoted to Inter (bought).

Maybe Viviano isn't seen as the number uno goalkeeper for the future since JC is just 29 years old. JC will have over five years of his career still at the top. Viviano will be rotting on the bench quite some time if he comes to Inter now. He won't develop there so like I said he's probably not seen as future-number-one-GK but just a quality second choice GK.

Meh, how did it sound when Julio Cesar joined us?

"Fabio Carini is better" is my personal favourite.

So are you referring Viviano might replace JC as the first keeper? That is what JC did immediately when he joined us. JC is just becoming to his prime (couple of years needed still to get more experience). Viviano is just 23-year old rookie.

Fabio Carini was one of these talents that can't blossom ever. I always thought that he is pretty good.

:grumpy:
He will bloom sometime, he belongs to the same specie of plant as Pasquale and Ventola... and the Bamboo tree. They bloom once every 35 years!!!

He plays now at Brescia. Never played Empoli.

We should loan him to a Serie A team for next year, to gain experience in first class. He played over 100 matches at Serie B, but in Serie A there are much better strikers, who must be known. (If Brescia can promote to Serie A, that would be the best option for him to stay there 1 more year.)

He is in a hard position, Julio performs very well, and perhaps it will take long time.

Viviano said in an interview he is there to replace Francesco Toldo and he looks up to him like a legend. Not sure when he will join our squad though.

If Toldo leaves, Viviano will be second choice next year probably. If not, he will get experience elsewhere.

Exactly. It's no use to Inter nor Viviano to have him in the bench most of the season yet. He should get more experience still elsewhere and we should sign Toldo for yet another season.

What Cafe is saying is right......Loan him out to a serie A side for 2-3 years he'll gain experience during this time playing against the likes of Amauri-Ibra-Adriano and such.....Keep toldo as he still has 2 years atleast in him...by the time Toldo retires JC will be 32-33 and we could then evaluate the situation better (is JC doing an amazing job that Viviano will sit in the bench for 30 games).....Because there's no point of getting a class keeper will spend all his time in the bench....
