Good work wambam...

From that, Palermo played 4-3-1-2 for almost the whole season with Cavani as a striker next to Miccoli. Like the line-up Bro(wha) presented.

Is this site credible ? If so, the Cavani-was-a-winger-at-Palermo myth has been busted. (for his last season there atleast).

Edit: I owe wambam $100. Can I pay you monthly 1$ installments over the next 8 years ?

You guys want to really go nuts? here:
http://espnfc.com/team/fixtures/_/id/2923/season/2009/palermo?cc=5901

Click each serie A match, go to gamecast. You can select "average" position for the team, which is a much better indication of formation than guessing the lineup. Also, you can select "heat map" for a selected player and see different parts of the pitch they were.

In general, cavani was a wide player. Did he sometimes play as a CF alongside Miccoli? Yes, but the MAJORITY of the time, he was a wide player. Not a winger like Robben/Ribery/Di Maria, but a wide forward/Palermo. He was like this at Palermo and Uruguay.

Napoli converted him to classic CF with very little defensive responsibilities and being played mostly up top. The truth is, if he was brought to Inter, he would've been in a wide position because of Milito. And let's be honest, do you see Cavani for Uruguay? Even today, he's largely ineffective for them because he's forced to play wide to accommodate Suarez.

Imo, not a mistake on Cavani. Kudos to Napoli for getting that finishing ability out of him, but we were never going to use him like that.

back on topic now please :D

If a player gets 13/14 goals for 2 seasons in a row, OUT WIDE, and is only 22-23 years old, Im not surprised they converted him to a CF. Who couldve seen that coming :derp:

Before we go back on topic N4Mod.

Like you said, he was 'not' a winger. But it's fine/normal to have a forward that plays a little wide with defensive duties. Despite all that, what was wrong with having Cavani play that kind of role next to Milito ? Based on people's opinions here, he was not 'up to it' at Inter, was 'unliked'. He had a very very good season, and showed very good characteristics. Hell, imagine having Eto, Milito, and Cavani :notbad: would have been a great understudy for Milito (in the perfect world).

Also, He was 22 and now we're crying for somebody like that.

I didn't think he's bad for Uruaguay. Thought he had a very decent Copa Sud America in fact.

I think people just misinterpreted his abilities because of the 'small club syndrome'. "a 22 yo from Palermo ? Meh"

No point in crying over spilt milk now, but he was sold terribly short.

Back on topic. Infractions will apply.

Only Napoli ? :chan:

Tutti Pazzi Per Materazzi -
Pros:

- Cavani is versatile. He is best as CF, but can also play on the wings and maybe behind lone striker if needed. Cavani's versatility is one of his biggest assets.
- He is 23 years old.
- Despite his age, Cavani has been in Italy since 2006. Three full Serie A seasons as a regular starter, even their mad president Zamparini has fired coaches all the time.
- Cavani really wants Inter. Seems like he refused Wolfsburg and we all know he would get far more important role there. Cavani surely knows that at Inter, he is not automatic starter like he has been at Palermo.

Cons:

- Cavani's rumored price tag is just too much. Something like 15m would be acceptable for me.
- Four names: Milito, Eto'o, Pandev, Balotelli. Cavani would be an investment for the future, but where the hell he would play next season? Benitez is planning 4-2-4 ()?
- He is a versatile forward but he has also one major weakness; at least in Serie A, he hardly pass the ball. Cavani plays for team, but he is just too selfish with ball at time. (on the other hand, this is area where youngsters usually improve with time).

Just some thoughts.

This guy seen it

Winger ? pfffffffft

Tbh, when we won the treble we missed a huge opportunity. We could have brought to us any almost any talent in the world, just because of our reputation. Who did we bring in? Coutinho and Biabiany?

Now players are like Inter? pfffffff.

We had a chance to rebuild from the start up, but we were way too euphoric to conjure up any long term plans.

And that one decision to not bring in players hurt the club badly, all the failure the past few years lead to that. It'll still affect the club for some time now.

Imagine if Moratti actually wanted to spend the money, Rafa wanted Mascherano along with Cavani and Sanchez. In my opinion Milan only won the Scudetto the year after the treble win is because of our own mistakes. If players were bought and some were sold we would be seeing a different Inter today possibly.

I'm worried by the hypothesis that Moratti might in the end just stick with Stramaccioni.

I just had a look at this link (never taken notice of the heat map before tbh) and randomly picked out quite a large number of games but including the 2 against Inter.

Sorry, but i found nothing that suggests he played 'wide' up front. There was only 2 instances where i found him 'wide'. They were both at the start of the season in which 1 game showing he played as a right midfielder/winger.

Strange.

Good tool though.

Said it several times and I'll say it again: Blanc. He's free, he wants to manage Inter (according to his agent anyways) has Serie A experience and understands how the game is played in Italy. He also had his Bordeaux teams playing attractive and winning football. I have the feeling he'd be a success here with the proper backing

I also would like Blanc.

Another name I'd be glad with is De Boer. He's doing great job with Ajax. Playing with basicly most youngsters. Having a good system. Now heading for 3 Championships in a row with Ajax. I know most of you'd say: " Ajax :yao: , if they don't play champion it's be shocking" But he did a good job. Also has a great playing career, knows the game, knows tactics.

But Blanc would be super for us as well

That De Bour is very good idea. Ajax knows how to produce young players and great coaches. His playing career were great and he knows how to make results with youngsters.

De Bour&Erikssen for revolution.

Just read we are apparently interested in Donadoni  :palm: That would be total joke, for me Laurent Blanc is by far the best solution. He is a coach "who has a name" and already knows the club. With him we can get some french talents who are a bit under the radar and who don't be too expensive. For our situation, Laurent Blanc would be the most logical solution...
