Well, I sure know Lukaku isn't one.
As for good central midfielders, I'd be more than happy with Barella, Milinkovic-Savic and a backup like Stefano Sensi to replace Vecino/Gagliardini, Joao Mario and Borja Valero. But odds say that if we do end up with Barella, the other two guys will be Xhaka and Fellaini... Rumours about guys like Eriksen, van der Beek, Bruno Fernandes and Pellegrini are nice to hear, but it's as likely as signing SMS at this point for all of them.
The fact that there are very strong rumours about guys like Lazaro, Dzeko, Lukaku and rumours about a bunch of others that even Milan would reject in the position they are now suggests that there's a likelihood that this will be the level of players we'll be getting. And we'd be overpaying to get them.
For example I doubt anyone wouldn't prefer us going for Manuel Lazzari for that RWB spot. Probably just 15m, maybe add a couple of loanees there, a potential NT perennial member and a very good player altogether who does play in this position. On the other hand, we're going for a Candreva clone who has not played much RWB at club level.
We do not seem to be following the Best Player Available strategy for our needs. Not even most suitable player.
The whole pre-season vibe feels just off. I'm very worried that by 2021 our biggest challenge would be to make Champions League again and it'll take to 2025 to untie our hands from what will follow to achieve that. Call me a pessimist or whatever, but please tell me why would any Inter fan be optimistic right now? I don't see us upgrading anywhere. Except for Barella who is a player we've been trying to sign for 2 seasons now... And Godin who was done before Conte even had his first nightmare of being the Inter manager.
