He only played 1694 minutes in the league though, 7 goals and 6 assists in 1700 minutes isnt awful for a 22 year old.

Zirkzee who, everyone is jerking off over and who is a month older scored 11 in 2700 minutes, so...

But surely, after last season everyone expected him to score (and play) more.

It's also significantly easier to score in the French league. The corpse of Alexis scored like 14 goals there last season in 2,500 minutes.

I don't see it with Balogun. His finishing looks extremely average. I don't think he'd have enough space here to make proper use of his speed.

I wouldn't say this is necessarily true.

Some of Alexis' goals were penalties plus a couple of direct FKs and it's not like he was bang average. He was quite good. He still is. He just doesn't have the lungs to play for more than 30 minutes of quality football. And he wants to be there for more than 90, it won't really cut it. He needs to go to a mid-tier league and be some team's leader rather than pretend he's still the guy who can lead a top side to a championship and a deep CL run.

Tell that to the people who wanted to sign him for over 40m. Still too early and occupies a much different role at Monaco than what he'd' have here, but definitely not worth the transfer fee.

The scoring rates between Italy and France this year are negligible. I think it's higher in France by a margin of, like, 1.34 vs 1.31 goals per game on a team to team basis. Inconsequential margin.

Pass on Balogun in any case.

France is typically the hardest to score in, PSG sort of inflates that and it's still rather low.

The easiest top leagues to score in are the Bundesliga and the Premier League.

10M + big salary for Arna was also not better. Balogun at least is young, you can still sell him again maybe. But i think we didn't had this +30M for Balogun, probably..

'Significantly' is such an absurd word to use in this context. Like its some sunday league.

I know everyone here likes to piss on the french league, mainly because few here actually watches it and the rest just jumps on the 'french league sucks' bandwagon out of ignorance.

Fact is that the french league is probably the most defensive in europe. That doesnt its great, but making claims that its 'significantly easier' to score there is impossible to take seriously.

And Arnautovic scored 10 goals in 21 games in Serie A in the same season

I would rate a French league goal over a Portuguese or Dutch or even a Spanish league goal. That said, I agree with you regarding Balogun. He was poor for Monaco last season, which means he is unlikely to be ready for Inter

Most defensive and definitely the most physical out of the top 5. Maybe Scotland tops them overall in Europe.

Balogun for 40mil is a bit much for a club like Inter, but otherwise I still see him being a smart striker that would flourish in a two striker system.

If we compare him to Zirkzee or Thuram, atm Balogun is no.3. All 3 are not exactly clinical goalscorers either, but that isn't all that players like that can offer.

The potential is there, next season he'll get to make the next step (or not). I believe he has a 15+ goal, 8 assist season in him. Finishing second in Ligue 1 is good too.

General problem in football is that there aren't almost any clinical strikers around, mostly because if that's your specialty, you'll be lacking in other areas that the top level deems more important now.

Balogun was expensive last year as he came with the tax of playing for a Premier League club who expect to sell players at the same levels they buy them for. They probably got lucky in extracting such a good fee from Monaco.

But he's done nothing to show he was worth that money or improve his reputation this season, so unless he was available on loan it makes no sense why he would even be discussed as an option for Inter next season. That's also leaving aside that he's not exactly dissimilar in style to Thuram when Inter need alternative strikers who can offer good target man or between-the-lines options.

Atletico go for Sorloth who scored 4 goals against Madrid. While our 4th striker is still Arnatunovic........
Villarreal bought Sorloth for 10M last summer (familiar price,eh?). We need to find this players before they had seasons like he had this year. Now it's too late.

Don't have one.
I remember we were being linked with sorloth couple of years ago. Doubt he would have been good enough for us if we bought him in those times, he obviously needed time to develop.

So it's not only identifying those players but buying them at the right time, cos players that come in now have to perform immediately, we are not a team anymore that fights just for cl spots.

Develop what exactly? What changed in his game since then?

He was really bad in NL, went on loan to Ghent, in those 6 month, he revived his career but still wasn't as clinical as he was in Turkey and Spain. So reckon he needed some time to fine-tune his scoring

That's one thing.
It's another to suggest that somehow he had some missing skills that appeared.
