Hehe, i remember when we signed him during the summer of the 2001 and he was tipped to become the next Ronaldo. The kid was so pumped to be playing with his idol and was going to learn from him, we all know what happened with him. In the first match that i saw him play which was in the UEFA cup vs Ipswich, he was terrible. Didn't know when to pass the ball and tried to do way too much.

We all knew that he was something special once he scored in his debut vs Real Madrid, only legends do this. I remember his spell at Fiorentina well too, he scored that late equalizer vs Milan didn't he? ;)

Adriano's profile

this is from goal.com, pretty interesting:

Adriano Leite Ribeiro, born on 17 February 1982 in Rio de Janeiro, is considered as one of the best strikers in the world. But how did he come so far after being a poor child living in the streets of Rio? Adriano started his career at Flamengo in Brazil where he showed his Brazilian flair, not a prolific goalscorer yet but more of a skilful youngster. This landed him him a move to Inter Milan.

At Inter Adriano had a dream start by scoring in his first match against Real. But when the season got underway the youngster knew that he wasnt going to get first team football with the likes of good friend Ronaldo and Christian Vieri at the club. So after scoring 1 goal in 8 matches, Inter decided to loan the youngster out to Fiorentina at the beginning of 2002. And it was there that Adriano started to grow, he played 15 matches for the Viola scoring 6 important goals. In the summer of 2002 he returned to Inter but the Nerazzurri had other plans and decided to give him more experience by loaning him out to Parma this time. And at Parma Adriano started maturing as a footballer, mixing his skills with his power Adriano played 1 and a half seasons at Parma scoring 23 goals and earned himself a return to Inter in January 2004.

Now Adriano had become a striker on whom you could rely on and that is exactly what he showed at Inter by eclipsing the likes of Vieri and Alvaro Recoba to a starting shirt. He paved the way for Inter to end the season in 4th place and so qualifying for the Champions League.

Now Adriano is showing his skills with Brazil at the Copa America as he is by far the best player of the tournament. He is demonstrating that he deserves a starting role alongside Ronaldo for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches. And if Brazil coach Parreira has the guts to place these two deadly strikers alongside each other, they will indeed take some stopping.

So all in all Adriano has all the potential to become the new Phenomenon as he is without a doubt one of the best strikers in the world. Even better than Ronaldo? Time will tell!

Goal.com really rate Adriano. He is always one of their players to watch.

Forza Adriano. Lo Scudetto is waiting. You and Vieri are meant to shoot us to victory.

BTW Tommi, I don't think Vieri is hated. In fact, I would say he is admired by 95% of people here. Just many of us think that perhaps it is time for him to move on, especially with Martins and Adriano.

why does everyone say that vieri is over? last seson he was appauling to his standards but we are not talking about cruz or kallon, vieri has been our main striker for years

for example look at newcastle sheraer has been there for ages he is 34 i think and he was only second to henry last season

so what happens if henry has a bad season i would doubt that arsenal fans would say that he is over. i know that vieri is "old" but the guy scored 24 goals two seasons ago his personal best in italy how can u become too old in 1 year? i dont remember anyone complaining about Vieri in 2002/03 season....

have some faith in the guy that brought us joy for so many years

I am one of the people who doesnt think vieri is over...:)

I have faith in this guy, he may be a bit too honest sometimes,
but he chose inter, and last time he chose inter over juve..
he scores many goals and last season he's still our top scorer..

next seaston, he may not be as good as this season, but with our attacking scheme and adriano's talent.. they may coexist... Vieri is probably will not feature much in lippi's italian NT... so he has to put everything in inter..

I want him to succeed next season, and whatever u guys say about him..
just like veron, davids and probably sinisa and cesar.. Vieri is staying with us, so let us pray he's gonna kick some butts next season..

I still put adriano as our #1 striker, but I believe that vieri's experience is vital to adriano and martin's improvement... Those two are still very young, and vieri has been around for many years..

Vieri is also well respected among the players, for the italian players vieri is one of the player they look up to... the young martins considers him as one of his best friend..

if a senior player like vieri can get along with a youngster like martins... meaning he has charisma and way to communicate...

I also believe vieri understand his current role right now....

I prefer not talking about vieri's departure or how he sucked...

He's staying with us untul next season, so we have to cheer for him

Adriano - #10
Very good article on Adriano, though I know most of that stuff anywayz.

On Vieri, I personally admire him for all that he has done for the club and for being the main striker for the past few years though I just think that with him past his 30s and perhaps past his prime it would be best to cash in on him now and buy a new player who would partner Adriano well and also be young and talented.
