Rano, Juan and Handanovic are really saving our asses this season. Our strikers are hit and miss. Our midfield has been a mess outside of Guarin. We have no real style of play. But when you have solid center backs and keeper back there it masks a lot of deficiencies.

You know you're in trouble when your centre backs are assisting each other to score when our midfielders can't assist our strikers!

(see Juan assist to Rano goal earlier in season)

I want to see Prandelli favoring Barzagli & Bonucci over Ranocchia with his current form and well deserved praise.

I actually WANT to see Barzagli & Bonucci playing constantly for Italy. Don't want to let Rano get injured - see, he doesn't play for his country but it's still great

JZ4 doesn't like to play in a 3 man defence. He made it clear when Gasp was here and Strama won't do that.

Tru dat. JZ played once or twice under Gasp there at CB, and he was solid.
Imagine a Zanetti-Samuel-Cambiasso backline :derp: average-age level infinite

This should be for combined Rano-Juan thread, but as I said in December, Rano is still not a world class defender as much as some would like to think. Same goes for Juan. They are talents and quite exciting, but people need to tune down on talking about their current level because we've seen that they still have more bad games than you'd be able to allow. Some of their mistakes we choose to ignore, some are obviously undeniable.

And as I said many times with stats (seeing as Rano has the high rating on WhoScored), they are pointers, but you can get the real story only if you analyze him (and do so critically - rather than trying to prove that the stats/initial praise is right, you try to prove that the stats are wrong and after the observation, you determine where the truth is).

He had few average, by no means bad games. World class? Maybe not, but great one? Definitely. Juan is still far from Rano, but also 4 years younger.

Please let's not turn this into another 'world class' debate

They've both played very well and beyond my expectations this year. If Rano was playing like 2011/2012 Rano and if Juan was going through as many growing pains as your typical young center back we'd be so fucked it's not even funny. They make their fair share of mistakes, but expecting anything else would be insane given our [lack of] playing style and the state of our midfield.

He should gain 7/10kg in muscle. He wont lose speed or anything, its not like he has some kind of speed to start with.

What he needs now are 2 things, to get him in the "world class" level, first is to be called and be a regular starter for Italian national team, and second thing is that Inter should start playing with for backs (2 cb 2 full backs), so he starts to get a sense of his positioning even better.

Ranocchia is perhaps too slow for 3-man defence. At least for RCB role where you have to cover the right side pretty often. Also like the dude said, he needs to get better with his positioning. It's obvious when the defence line lacks the true leader (Samuel) everyone are a bit lost there. Chivu ain't one and Ranocchia ain't one, at least not yet.

Rano doesn't have positioning problems imo. He has with small agile dribblers, but many defenders have. Also, i don't think he is THAT slow, he has improved his pace and acceleration immensely this year, nearly not as clumsy as last season. He is playing as RCB in 3 men defense simply because he is great passer, and has decent technique on the ball.

Yes you are :)

Bot are great, but Juan still makes way too many mistakes. The only thing Juan is better at is one on one, and that's it.
