Meh, it's not me vs him :p He believes he is good coach and overachieves, I believe he is average one that does as good as his and his teams quality is. ;)

If you do not think getting out of a CL group of Man City, Bayern Munich and Villarreal with only 1 loss is overachieving, then I do not know what to tell you. Mourinho couldn't manage that with a group of Panathinaikos, Werder Bremen and Anorthosis!

The assumption here that there are coaches who can consistently beat their predicted performance. So far I haven't seen coaches who can do that. The answer is usually much simpler than that. If the club is consistently poor, then their squad is poor. If the club is consistently good, then their squad is good.

I like 3 man defense, we just lack players for it

I personally think we're one good replacement CB and two good wingbacks away from being able to play 3-5-2 well now we've signed Kuzmanovic and Kovavic. I feel Nagatomo is the only wingback who has shown he is of much use of being in advanced positions so often. If we had picked up Kolorov instead of Periera we'd be in a better position to play with three at the back.

A back 3 of Campagnaro, Rannochia and Juan Jesus seems cool to me

What's your ideal midfield look like if we're using a 3-man defense vito? With our current squad.

our problem isn't with the defenders, rano and jesus have been amazing in a back three and so has samuel (who won a scudetto playing in a 3-4-1-2)

the problem is that the rest of the team is waaaaay too static to play in such a formation, and i'm pointing the finger at zanetti cambiasso milito and cassano in particular, who aren't bad players, they're just not suited to a dynamic formation at all since any momentum the team has screeches to a halt whenever one of them gets the ball

also, while nagatomo and pereira have enough energy to play as wingbacks, they're inconsistent/atrocious passing doesn't do our counter attacks any favors

Can someone actually explain to me Strama's thinking? What is the point of having Naga, Periera, Jonathan, or JZ so far up the pitch when none of them are comfortable in possession, nor can they cross well or beat players? I understand Schelotto being so far up the pitch, but his issues are more to do with defending.

Like is it just me? I look at other teams who play our formation and their wingbacks are a lot more capable in an attacking and ball retention sense.

Unfortunately we don't have the proper wingbacks to play this, so we would have to sign at least one of those as well. I think Nagatomo is good enough there.

The way I like to play a 3 back system when I coach is with 2 CM's or DM's and 1 attacking mid in a triangle. Like Napoli did at the beginning of the season before they switched to their current 3-4-2-1 style. As opposed to Juve's way which is inverted.

Guarin and Cambiasso (or Kuzmanovic) in the bottom of the triangle and Kovacic at the top. Wonder how it would do...

I think Skeet has a point when it comes to our forwards as well. Look at Juve and Napoli's forwards in comparison to ours. They run so much more. The more I think about how we're playing the less it makes sense.

4 man defence or Gtfo we are not Juve nor Napoli!

Juve have Asamoah and Lichsteiner as WB who can defend and attack a Pirlo(best regista ever) and Vidal(box to box) and a Marchisio( awesome technic )

Napoli have Maggio and Zuniga as WB, Inler and Behrami as CM/DM,Hamsik and Pandev as AM....

We play 3-4-1-2 have a Schelotto(shit at defending)and Naga who is meh at defending a Zanetti/Gargano at DM :palm: ,Kuzma as the regista(decent) then there is Cuchu who plays as a AM these days :palm: and Guaro :palm: or Kova as the AM

Do you see what is wrong?

I do...and I tell you again that Strama is playing them out of their primary positions...
Question is why?
I tell you why...because he has no idea what he is doing no more...he has lost the plot compleatly the moment MM said we need the CL spot!!! The pressure has overwhelmed the guy plain and simple!

Maybe this could work...maybe

-------Handa
--Frog-Samuel-JJ
JZ-Kuz--Cuchu-YN
---Guaro/Kova----
---Milito--Cassano

but we need Samuel and he is not available

so we must turn to the:

4-3-1-2

-----Handa
JZ---Frog-JJ---YN
Guarin-Kuz-Cuchu
------Kova
--Milito-----Cassano

like I already mentioned a 1000X times...

this, any lineup that says Kovacić/Guarin is stupid, too important players to shuffle them

Well ... our mercatos would be even more chaotic ... but after one month Cassano would be able to play 180 minutes without break.

Here is a nice little story I read that made me think a lot about how the attitude towards coaches has changed.

In 1986, a competitive club hired a coach in hopes to lead them to glory. In his first season he ended up at 11th place, way below the 4th place finish they had the season before. Yet during the summer he was granted a significant sum to be spent on the summer market. The next season the club ended up in second place, so the manager got another huge transfer purse. Unfortunately, the season after that the club were back in 11th place. Still, the club insisted on giving the manager even more money in the summer for transfers.

The next season, the club went on a run of 8 games with 6 defeats and 2 draws, that lead up to a humiliating 5-1 derby loss. By this point the fans and the press have had enough and were publicly calling for the coach's sacking. Yet, the club's board met with the coach and assured him they were happy with his work, and decided they would keep him on.

That coach's name is Alex Ferguson.

Seen lots of documentaries about this and Fergie. Some were saying fans were VERY angry to the board for not sacking him, making chaos in and out the stadium...

What has happened later.. :eek:blivious:
