FIF Special OnesIndeed yet they also failed to correctly rule on the offside call on Suarez (he was level) that would've been a penalty in the 2nd half too
This is a reach. Generally offsides calls are only overturned if there is a sure goal disallowed.

10 years of FIFHave any of you seen VAR being used to check offside which would deny a penalty call? Me neither. I believe that's not how it works.

Suarez was so free for the 1st goal.He raises both his hands for the ball and has so much time to drift outside the box.Nobody picks him up at all.And there is enough time for somebody to look.I mean we are famed for having these fantastic defenders.Its not even the 90th minute that they are tired.So why is nobody picking him up when he is such a danger?Very disappointed in the defense now after seeing this again.

Skriniar was an extra defender on no one, De Vrij should have communicated better with him and Godin rushed to cover the loose space from that and then was caught in that excellent Suarez move.

10 years of FIFWe have been arguing with you for years on this forum. The ref had to had called a penalty, then VAR would have reviewed for offside.
Did the ref award pk? I don’t recall....maybe I’m wrong.

10 years of FIFNo maybe about it. Ref didn't consider a penalty due to the erroneous offside call. Per the cited FIFA scope of when VAR is used, a penalty decision was impacted by an 'offside position leading up to penalty'. So yes, it should've been alerted by the VAR referee but wasn't checked. This, among many criticisms against VAR, is chief among the complaints about the inconsistent use of VAR
