It's officially done and this thread is not about the transfer but how he was treated by Madrid during his tenure.

They are the biggest and most glamorous club but when you see how their Legend who has been there for 25 years was treated, it's just begs the question, why players are so desperate to join them. Ozil, Di Maria, Ramos also suffered similar fate with Madrid friendly media but what Casillas experienced was worse.

His send off was a complete non event. No single player, no Perez or even a single director in the room. Just journalists who just sat there and listened to his farewell speech.

Sid Lowe's take on the matter.

Perhaps the best demonstration of that was this: there was something telling and uncomfortably fitting about the way it ended. On a Sunday morning, in an empty stadium, no trophies, no videos, no embrace. Nobody, in fact.

Casillas has played 725 games for Madrid and has won every trophy there is: winner of three European Cups and five league titles, as well as two European Championships and the World Cup with Spain. The club captain, he has been there for quarter of a century and had intended to be there his entire life. But Madrid did not want him and did not wave him off. He came in on his own, sat on his own and left on his own. His former team-mates were on a plane to Australia, president Florentino Pérez was not present and no director accompanied him. There were none even in the room. There were no fans in the stadium, either, although a few had gathered outside.

Whatever was the issue, it was such a sad ending for him. Compare that with Xavi, Gerrard's send offs, it's such a poor reflection on the club. Deserved much better IMO.

Afaik Casillias himself refused a bigger ceremony with the fans and all. He probably was afraid he's gonna get booed.

Dunno why anyone would want to be a RM legend anymore after Raul, Casillas and the rest of the players they have mistreated

I think this has some truth to it. Iker did refuse to answer the questions from the reporters thinking they'll bring up the tension with the board and bad memories of the last couple of years.

Real tried to fix things with a quick send off with 2000 spectators.

It is not surprising taking in mind how Raul, Guti and especially Hierro was treated. Real Madrid doesn't show any loyality to its players as they see them as shit when they are getting old. I think Zidane would have been "thrown" out too if it wasn't because he decided to retire.

I think they had an official press conference today with Florentino Perez present and will have a farewell game at the trofeo Bernabeu later this year.

Soldado!? The guy with 16 matches for their first team? Maybe you are thinking about Morientes as I don't remember Soldado leaving the club in a bad manner.

even di stefano was treated with a lot of disrespect when he left madrid, though he later made up with the club. he left them in acrimonious circumstances after the defeat to inter in the 1964 european cup final. one of real's players, zoco, said after the game that "when you play well you're a phenomenon, but as soon as you lose you're worthless [to the club]". real's coach munoz told di stefano to fuck off near the end of the game, and di stefano replied "you fucking fuck off. we're playing with our lives here." the president bernabeu said before the game "old soldiers never die". after the game he said "if you want to be a star you have to know how to be a star. its not enough to say 'im so and so, the best in this position' [referring to di stefano]. so what?" madrid's next match in the league vs atletico, di stefano was left out of the lineup after 11 years, and when he asked munoz why, munoz replied "i dont have to give you an explanation". that loss to herrera's inter ended up being the last game he played with them before moving on to espanyol.

its real madrid after all. they have lost their club culture, especially under florentino perez's direction. their shirt may be glamorous and decorated with trophyware, but it has no soul.

When Inter extend old players contracts many complain that it is a waste of Money (remember Materazzi), but when Real does the opposite it is a Club without soul etc.

Yes Casillas should have a huge ceremony, but if he refused to, you cant really blame Real.

Casillas wants first team action regulary, no point in being at Real then when they are obviously pursuing De Gea and also bought another new gk in Kiko

Honestly Casillas was creating too much drama, he is not as good as he used to be, but nobody could bench him because it created troubles in the dressing room. I don't think he demonstrated a lot of love to the shirt or team spirit with all that, instead of endorsing the other goalies crying because he wasn't starting every match.

And I just read in a newspaper his mom saying that he shouldn't go to Porto because is basically a serie B team, that she would have been way happier even if he went to Barcelona because they are real gentlemen, lol.

Yeah, that's why Porto and Real have the same amount of CL trophies in the last ten years :yao: Same goes for us BTW. Not to mention domestic silverware Porto has accumulated during this period.
