Well, if most people here realize this, it is very strange that they still continue to talk about our formation. We have changed many formations over the past 16 months under Benitez, Leonardo and Gasperini, and we have seen no real improvement. The coach and the formation are not our problem.
No the formation is a problem along with the way it is used inside the field. The good coach will see his players ability and find the suitable formation to fit them.
We have a good central defenders Lucio, Samuel, Ranocchia and Chivue can play as well, Left & Right Back we have Zanetti, Maicon, Jonathan and Nagatomo.
with these options we can maintain excellent defense.
In the midfield and attack we have many options including young players who must given the chance to proof them self. What we need is a good formation and plan to get the best of them.
So I don't expect to get beaten by Novara and say Ok we have an aging squad. AGING mean to me a lot of injuries, bad fitness and slowness.
And I don't see that in most of our aging squad. Well lets see who are our first team choice old players (32 and above):
Zanetti (38), Lucio (33), Samuel (33), Stankovic (32), Milito (32), Forlan (32). Not all of them shows aging problem like Zanetti and Lucio is still working hard, also Forlan looks in good shape as well.
We have also good young players like Obi, Alvares, Coutinho, Poli and Castaignos. All of them in the 19 and early 20's, they need some confidence and opportunity.
IMO if you mix the whole team together you can get something strong and solid.
