Frattesi’s has been quiet involved in his recent cameos, but Fiorentina will be a huge test. He’s got a knack for exploiting the chaotic final minutes of the game when formations are scattered and space opens up.

What he’s struggled with is involving himself with the general rhythm of our buildup. It’s been a while since we saw him start in Serie A and I’m hoping he’s grown on the training ground.

It’s a shame he won’t have Hakan’s experience next to him, meaning all the more pressure with be on Asllani and Frattesi to perform.

Was that him with the dummy for the goal?
Yes. Frattesi and Arnautivic were the two players ahead of Lautaro, who dragged the defenders.

Feel like he was involved in the build up more than usual yesterday. He'll probably play 90 minutes against Fio, it's a big opportunity to prove himself.

He was, but it's still too soon to say if he can do it against 11 players for 90 minutes.

As long as he plays with confidence, I think he'll do okay.

It's Asllani that I'm worried about.

Asllani is actually more competent with the ball and knows how to dictate our tempo. I like his vision and ability to deliver long range passing, but he's kind of frustrating with backward passing almost all the time. Maybe it could be that Inzaghi wants him to not take any risks but honestly I'd want him to dig a bit more in offensive department.

I really like Asllani's attributes. He's nowhere near Hakan's level but the guy needs to take more risks IMHO.

Frattesi doesn't lack confidence to me. He just lacks self awareness and somewhat creativity while we are on ball possession, and I even said a while ago, adjusting him properly in our scheme will be one of the biggest tasks of Inzaghi.

Sure, Asllani is competent against midtable/lower table , but I think Fiorentina might be a bit too strong for him. He'll probably try to overcompensate with long balls because I'm sure Fiora will try to pressure him for the whole 90 minutes. What I want from Asllani is for him to be more dynamic in positioning.

Not saying you're wrong, but playing both Asllani and Frattesi in the starting line-up will expose us a lot I think, which will make things even harder for Asllani, as he has a lot more responsibility than Frattesi. Let's see what Inzaghi will decide, but hopefully only one of them will be starting against Viola, and I trust his decision.

I thought Asllani is a very dynamic player in overall. Though being good at positioning in such a role is not easy at all. You have to be constantly active and look for free zones, get off the opponent (to receive the pass), and make things easier for your teammates.

Hopefully we'll have Bastoni back in the line-up. We can trick them by being far more active through the flanks because you've made a good point regarding him being pressured by Viola, if he'll start of course.

Yeah that is why I said that Frattesi will have to play a bit more laidback, since Asllani will need help for sure. I know Frattesi loves to roam forward but I'd rather have Dumfries/Buchanan playing on the wing and have them being the main attacking threat on the right side.

Aware this is a Frattesi thread but just to wrap up. Both him and Asllani have the same issue on the pitch. They don’t move into an empty space and make themselves available again after making a pass. Certainly they’re not as static as Gags or Vecino. But they need to work on their off-the-ball movement.

This is what makes Mkhi indispensable for Inzaghi. He doesn’t have the long range pass capability of Asllani or the goal instinct of Frattesi. But anytime he’s on the pitch, he will provide that second last link to the final third. That’s what makes all the difference

Agreed, altho I wouldn't call Vecino static. If anything, he was in attack too much

In general, Fiorentina tend to be in top 3 for possession in Serie A in recent seasons (if someone has stats to confirm that would be great). Especially given a makeshift midfield I do think we'll try to sit back more than usual in this game.

Even if that stat is accurate, doesn't really mean much because we have seen how naive Viola is these days. I'm more worried about our absences rather than their approach in the game. Them being in top4 atm tells more about incompetence of teams like Napoli, Lazio, Roma and Atalanta.

I expect a difficult match actually, but that's entirely because of our absences.

Their defence is not that good, but their midfield is. And we'll play with a worse version of our midfield, that is why everybody is panicking a bit. Any result is possible against Fiorentina

But everything depends on us. If we're putting a proper effort and our bench players manage to step up, then we'll be fine, otherwise it's going to be very difficult.

At least we have both Lautaro and Thuram available. Mkhi has been pretty good lately, and he's there as well.

Hakan's absence is far more decisive IMO, but like I said, Viola is such a naive team that it would be a shame to not take advantage over that, even though we're missing key players in midfield.

He knows how to shoot on goal and run forward, but damn he makes it hard for Inzaghi to really play him more. I'd rather see him play in a more conservative manner, being close when we are in possession, so that he can help Asllani more, but he just doesn't seem the type to do that.

What a stinker. He needs to accept he's that he's not even close to displacing Mkhitaryan and must work harder.

Come on he's not that bad. Not involved in the play at all but at least his runs were exactly what we needed (especially after Thuram came off). He just can't replace Mkhi or Barella yet.
