They wanted him last year, finally got their man. Has guided Southampton to a top half finish + attractive football + developing talents. They have the coach, will they buy the right players? thats the 4th CL spot question.

I wouldn't expect a top4 finish in the first year, Tottenham needs a bit of reconstruction and they need to utilize Erikson better

I'm glad Pocc got a 'bigger' club, I want to see his worth. I wonder if he'll get rid of Soldado or Adebayor or will he keep both

What has Pocchettino done to make anyone think he is not an improvement over the recent coaches at Spurs. If I were a Spurs fan, I'd be pretty happy with him at this point.

Made the relegation threatened team to one of the toughest team to beat and playing superb football? Also Southampton never finished in 8th position before in PL.

I still dont think he is the right fit for spurs seeing how he still can barely speak English and was fired from espanyol not that long ago. I dont think he will end up Like Rodgers did for Liverpool but saying that i do hope he proves me wrong as i have enjoyed watching Southampton this year and hope he continues to implement his playstyle with spurs.

If what he did at Southampton doesn't matter to you, but his lack of desire to speak to the press in English (although he speaks English to his players) and he was one of the rare coaches to ever get sacked in Spain does matter, I'd submit we have a different perspective.

He's probably more fluent than he lets on. He does it so he doesn't have to deal with the media.

Pochettino had Espanyol punching above their weight. He got fired after Espanyol kept selling their best players, and he couldn't keep up.

Class coach. Lamela will thrive under him. Moulded southampton into a solid team that often plays some attractive attacking football. He is a good motivator and quite adept at promoting and developing youth. Type of coach we require but i will stick with mazzari till i die

It is not that is does not matter but people seem to forget what happened before a successful period. I remember many fans being disgruntled at the fact that Adkins had been sacked and they were getting someone who had been sacked from a relegation team in a league that as you rightly pointed out does not sack a lot of coaches. I just think spurs is a bit to much of a step up especially with Levi's reputation in regards to unrealistic expectations.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but obviously we have different conclusions. First of all, I was being facetious about coaches being sacked in Spain. They are sacked as often as they are in any other country so it's not unusual or really relevant when any manager gets the boot. Admittedly Southampton fans were unhappy when Adkins was shown the door, but it didn't take long for them to like Pochettino and realize he was the better manager.

Secondly, if teams never hired managers that were considered a so-called step up, how would any top team ever hire anyone? That's a puzzler. Pochettino is well aware of Levy's reputation and if Levy wants to splash a 5 year contract on him, how could he refuse.
