Yeah the idea of teams filled with players like Batistuta, Vieri, Baggio, Nesta, Buffon, Rui Costa, Cannavaro, and even Diego fucking Maradona not being able to play in the CL (or even UEFA Cup) every season simply because the league was too strong and competitive sounds crazy today. :D

Ive never really thought about this before, but paying shit salaries does really hurt us, it means our players get keen on even the poorest of wages because its not hard to improve on what we offer

It is working out well for Napoli so I wouldn't worry much about it.

Im sure even at Icardi's current salary he has no trouble keeping his bitch satisfied. Can you imagine if us as regular joe blow's go into work tomorrow and demand a raise from our current bosses?? They would tell us where to go and never come back which should be the case here. No way does it make sense after a year to demand a raise on your current contract. Sorry just venting ;)

Is "well" when a team's only trophies are two Coppa Italias and they have lost the best striker in Serie A (twice) to bigger clubs? If so, I agree, it's going swimmingly.

speak for yourself.

The point, anyway, is more like.. I get paid £50,000 a year. I have a job offer for £100,000. If I LOVE my current company, I'd go and talk to my boss and ask for a raise to at least something like £80,000. If I'm not really that bothered by my current company I'd just leave

That's the leverage people have on us with our poor salary cap

i don't think this comparison fits. players are more like managers, they are already rich (so they cannot play the card "i want to earn more so my family can live comfortably") and they must play for the "company" until the contract expires no matter what, unless the parts together agree differently. it is true that the value of the players can change increase a lot, but it can also decrease and it's not like the players earn less if they suck ball, so they should just shut the fuck up.

i understand that if your value gets much higher you want to earn more, but there still is a contract, so you cannot just threaten to leave if you don't get what you want. don't players (usually through their agents, since they don't have the courage to tell it themselves) constantly remind us that they are professionals? well, they better act like ones then.

and another thing: football is all about emotion. it is irrational, we supporters pay for it because it gives us emotions, so at least under a moral point of view, players will never, ever have the right to act like it is all about money, because it isn't since it's OUR emotions that are paying their wages, even if indirectly. if football had the same number of supporters as curling, they would earn like they do in curling, id est zero, and only do it for fun in their spare time after a day of a "normal", actual job.

Yes, but then, their careers are much more compressed (10, 15 years) and they blow their money. The smarter ones see that fact and try to adjust for it quickly, but at the end of the day, you're not going to accept X/2 pay when you think you can make X, whether X is £10k or £100M.

Football is only irrational for the fans. It is not irrational for the players. There are plenty of footballers who hate football, but play it as they're good at it. Like Marlon Brando hating acting, it happens.

This is where us, as fans, need to separate the emotional side from the business side which footballers see.

That being said, Icardi can still go fuck himself

I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous post.

Yes, it is working out well for Napoli. I didn't say it is working out superbly for them but at least it is better than Inter. They keep finishing above us and their wage bill is way below us.

Do you have expect us to bcome Real Madrid over night? We need to take it step by step and currently Napoli are a few steps ahead if us. So naturally we need to get to their level first and then try and go higher.

Also,

Do you seriously consider selling a 29 yr old striker for 94 million a failure?

ERICK THOHIR: "WE'RE NOT SELLING ICARDI. MANCINI IS OUR COACH"

The president spoke exclusively to Inter Channel in New Jersey: "Suning and the management want to strengthen the squad further so that we can reach our targets"

NEW JERSEY – Erick Thohir has given an exclusive interview to Inter Channel in New Jersey, where the team are staying for the second week of their US tour.

Speaking from Inter's hotel on the first of three days of management meetings, the president said: "It's good to be here today for our manager meeting, which has become a regular fixture at the start of every season - first in Washington, then last year in China and now here in New York. These meetings offer an important opportunity for us to get together and decide on our direction and our aims as management for the coming season.
"This year we have a new majority partner and it's good that they're here so that we can understand how they plan to work with us in China, where we want to open a new office and develop our facilities and Inter Academy centres. Asia is a huge market and that's where we'll be looking to grow over the next five years.

"We're not going to sell Icardi. We've received offers – from Napoli too – but we're not going to sell him. We extended his contract a year ago. We're like a family and we can always talk if there are problems or discuss what we'd like to achieve together in future. He's our captain and an important player for us. We're very happy with him.

"Roberto Mancini is our coach. Here in the States he's working on the pitch with the team and off it with the management. I believe very much in his work.
"We're all working together and over the next two days we'll meet again to help each other. I have great belief in our management structure. We work together as one, not individually.

"New York is beautiful but we're not here on holiday. Today we spoke with the management and with Suning about how to strengthen the team. We've sold a few players and we've made some very good signings to complete our 21-man Europa League squad but we're not going to stop there. Suning and the management team want to strengthen the squad further so that we can compete in Serie A and reach our targets - one of which is to get back in the Champions League."

Edit: I hadn't noticed Enjoy had already posted it on the Icardi thread. Sorry for double posting.

NEW YORK - Erick Thohir was interviewed on Class CNBC at the New York Stock Exchange this morning. Here you can read what the president had to say.

"I studied in the United States and I've stayed in touch with lots of people so it's like a second home to me. It's been a great experience for us in America this summer – not only for our team and our tour but also because we visited the United Nations, thanks to the work done by Inter Campus in 29 countries.

"It's important to support these children as through football they can help to change things. We really are Brothers of the World and football can reach lots of people and improve their lives.

"Ban Ki-moon is world-famous but he's really down to earth too. He occupies a very important role yet is humble at the same time. Inter are honoured that such a prestigious world figure came to watch our game.

"It's never easy to make predictions in football and there are lots of things to discuss – you have to work together and share ideas if you want to achieve great things. The coach has a crucial role and our coach has a good relationship with the club. We don't always agree on everything but the relationship is good. It's important that everyone is able to express their views so that we can work together as a team.

"The transfer window is an important period and the fans always want to see new faces. We're working together in this pre-season. We've had some tricky matches and we need to work even harder because the fans expect more.

"Players come and go but we're a big club and we want to keep hold of our best players. We've signed 15 players over the last two seasons and if you look at our first-choice XI there only two in there who were playing for us a few years ago. We'll try to add to the squad but we don't need seven or eight new players like last year.

"Banega is a great signing and we need a competitive squad because we'll be playing in the Europa League as well this season.

“Icardi is an important player for the team and he's our captain.

“Transfers are decided by the management and Suning together. In football it's important that the coach, the sporting director and the management all share the same vision. The decision on whether to buy a player or not doesn't depend on me alone – I have to speak to my team.

“Now we need to understand, together with Suning, how we can make Inter even better

"People have said that I oversaw a period of transition and it's true – I can't deny that. We've upgraded San Siro, our revenue has increased from 164 to 186 million euro and we now have 311 million fans, so I'm very happy with the transition.

"The new owner Mr Zhang has reiterated the importance of the management and the team working together to make sure that Inter can grow.

“Do we need to buy new players? Possibly but in any case our aim is to be competitive and qualify for the Champions League.

“As a businessman I'm always prepared to listen. Companies here at Wall Street are always on the lookout for new partners to help them grow and it's the same for us. If I hadn't been willing to listen to the new investors, Inter might not have grown so quickly. The Asian market is growing but our heart remains in Italy. I believe, as president of Inter, that I have made the best decisions for the club, not myself.

“One player I'd love to see at Inter is an important player for the team, not for me: Messi would be my dream signing. He's one of the world's best players and club would love to have him.”

Erick Thohir continued his morning in the Financial District with a visit to Bloomberg.
