I'm not sure, but I think there is one member who strongly was convincing us Cuchu just can't do in CL, no matter in what team, no matter agains what opposition. He is just not suited for CL.

Hmmmm...

Well I was totally wrong about Cambiasso, he was definitely one of the best players in this game. Only problem was his 1v1, where he just falls down and stretches his leg and let the opposition get away, and gave away some passes too easily just like Stankovic.

There goes the theory he can't play in CL down the drain (which is a good thing, no?). But still, I don't think he's all that composed playing in high tempo games.

Credits where it's due, candidate for MOM if not for Lucio :star:.

Good match by him, he still can't do shit on the high tempo though, we had real trouble in the first half when Chelsea were having a very high tempo, and our midfield just couldn't fit.

I was one of those who felt that he shouldnt play in this match, and I was WRONG! And how glad I am that I was wrong!

However having accepted I was wrong, I still feel that midfield with Zanetti, Cuchu and Deki is slow for UCL. We had few things happening tonight......Zanetti playing as LB and the tempo of the match was not that high....which meant he could be more of himself like in Serie A. I still havent seen him thrive in the high tempo UCL matches.

Lets not get overboard guys. Our midfield still sucked in the game. Blame in on Cuchu or Motta or Deki or the fact that all of them are good but do not form the best combination together.

That's correct rockball.

However Cuchus job is not to be a leader on the pitch. We know he is the mastermind of destroying other team, a mastermind in front of the deffense. He ain't Pirlo or Xabi Alonso.

That's why we desperatly need good on the ball box midfielders. Give this team Gerrard, Fabregas/Hamsik and you'll see wonders. Then Cuchu will be able to focus on what he does best, and he will play even better (won't have to take the ball so often).

He definitely gave his everything and scored a great goal but i just felt he was a step or 2 off the pace alot of the time when he was closing down chelseas midfield

Agree with luka the issue is the box to box midfielders not cuchu.

actaully i reckon Cuchu would be a quality box-to-box midfielder, he's a great asset going forward. If we get a proper, tough tackling DMF, say Yaya Toure, better yet a regista like D'Ago to play in the 'hole' in front of the back 4, shift Cambiasso to the left where Muntari/Motta play, then get a box-to-box like Inler to play in the right CMF, that would wrok brilliantly, IMO, total balance:

-------------Sneijder-------------

Cuchu--------------D'Ago---------------Inler

Cuchu to me doesn't have the leader personality. Something similar to Motta. He is best as the player working in the shadow - Makelele type.

All he needs, is the pair of box-to-box midfielders taking the responsibility of connecting the deffense and attack, and he will shine even more than he ever did at Inter.

Cuchu was a box to box in his first two seasons with us, which I have liked more than the role that he has been playing after Mancini converted him into a DM.

Which befuddles me, if he had the skills to play box to box initially, how can he lack so much composure passing in his own half nowadays? Didn't he play as an AM at the start of his career?

I think his passing and technique isn't as bad as some are saying here. But if we do indeed get 2 or 3 world class box to box midfielders, then it's merely covering Cuchu's problems, rather than increasing his overall play and making him shine even more.

Did anyone hear about how Sampdoria tried to clear the name of Cambiasso and said that nothing happened in the tunnel during halftime? And yet he is still banned for 2 games while Muntari's was reduced to a one-match ban.

I've seen that on fan sites, but would love some sort of independent confirmation that Samp actually did that. If so, the FIGC just made themselves look even worse.
