These tournaments are such a crapshoot though. So few games, and highly dependent on who's in form, injured, luck of the draw.

You never know who might got far.

And not to forget this stupid rule where the third place has still good chances to qualify... if italy don't passes the groups it would be really embarrassing.

But yeah as you said, there are a lot of things to consider. Remember how italy won the Euro or how france lost to swiss for example. Or before when Portugal won the competition even by passing only as third team in their groups with fucking IcelandEuro is not like World Cup. Maybe the interest of the teams are diffrent. Personally i was happy when Italy won it but it's nothing compared to winning a World Cup.
For me the only satisfying thing is that the tournament will be in Germany. I woud love a remake of 2006 (i live in germany and it was incredible how many italians were celebrating on the streets) but thats also the only reason. It's simliar to Europa League and Champions league, there is a big diffrence.

The fuck are those pots. I see pot 1 is the best one with top teams but the rest of them are really random. That pot 4 will be awful with those 3 teams being clearly pretty good, then maybe the one from the qualification playoffs A path, but the last 2 will be quite terrible.

It’s simple, Germany is the host so they’re first, then pots are filled by ranking in qualification round, group winners from slot 2nd to 10th, next is runner up, from 11th to 20, the rest is for play off team. Italy had 14 points, below Czech Rep, is 18th overall, they are in pot 4. So there would little difference between winning or drawing Ukraine, if they won, they should be in pot 3.

Italy won the tournament but is pot 4, Germany has won nothing and is shit but is still pot 1 only because they are host. (i anyway think that both should be pot 4 at the moment)

They stopped using coefficient ranking because of … Nations League. Now Nations League ranking is for qualification group drawing, then qualification ranking is for final tournament drawing. Nations League is also a safe gate for WC qualification play off.
