It's back!
Most of us know what is UEFA Champions League Fantasy Football. Now it's the 2006-07 season, with new changes.
First of all, I have to mention -for new people- that this game is on uefa.com, UEFA's official website.

If you're a new player in this game, read this article (from uefa.com) to take a quick view on the game:
Tipster prepares for 2006-07
First things first
It is always difficult to tell how well a team will perform before the competition kicks off. Will FC Barcelona dominate Europe again, or will this season see their Group A rivals Chelsea FC shine? The first thing you need to do as a fantasy football manager is to take a good look at the clubs involved, and make up your mind as to just how good you think the different teams are. You will then be able to pick players who will score points for your team.
Extra pressure
The Tipster believes that the first matchday of the group stage will see some very closely fought battles. A good start to the competition is crucial, and all teams involved will believe they have a chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds. This may mean you will score more points if you focus on a strong defence and midfield. Remember that you can change the formation of your team to play with different numbers of defenders, midfielders or forwards. To change your formation, simply select your chosen eleven players on the My Team page.
Take your time
You can only pick two players from any given team. This means that you will have to single out players from at least 6 different teams to complete your selection. Give yourself the time you need to make sure the players you pick will all make an impact. Also keep in mind, however, that you will be able to make transfers before every group stage matchday, including one for free.
Completing your team
Note that you will not be able to afford a full squad of stars. Fantasy Football managers who do really well will identify a number of more inexpensive players who will also bring in points for their teams. These will provide an essential backup for the more expensive players on the pitch. The Tipster recommends that you give these players the consideration they deserve. Last season for example, FC Artmedia's victory and three draws in the group stage of the competition produced a spectacular number of points for a few of the more astute managers in the game.
Matchday 1
There are some promising games in the first series of matches on 12 and 13 September. If you are finding it difficult predicting which teams will win, you may want to go with home teams. The Tipster, however, would single out FC Barcelona, FC Bayern München and AC Milan player as valuable sources of players on Matchday 1.
Injuries and suspensions
Finally, be aware that a number of players will miss the beginning of this season’s Champions League, either through injury or suspension. Keep an eye on uefa.com for all the latest team and injury news.
HELP ME!
You know nothing about the game? then read this:
Squad selection
Each player may enter one fantasy football squad, multiple squads will be deleted. Squads must consist of:
- 2 Goalkeepers
- 5 Defenders
- 5 Midfielders
- 3 Forwards
Each player has been given a value. The total value of your initial squad must not exceed 100 million Euros. The value of each player can be found here .
Formations
From your squad you select eleven players to form your team each Matchday. Only starting or automatically substituted players will earn points for your team. Your team can play in any formation, providing one, and only one, goalkeeper is selected.
To change your formation simply select your chosen eleven players on the My Team page. The computer will automatically chose your formation based on the players you have selected.
Players can only play in their designated position. For example, you can't play a defender as an attacker.
Automatic substitutions
If your goalkeeper plays no part in the Matchday, then the computer will substitute the player for your replacement goalkeeper, if they played in the Matchday.
If any of your outfield players play no part in the Matchday, then the computer will try to substitute the inactive player for one of your replacements. This is done by replacing them with your highest priority substitute who actually played in the Matchday. You can change your substitution priorities on the My Team page.
Automatic substitutions are applied at the end of the Matchday, when all matches have been played.
Captains
You must nominate a member of your team to be captain. This player will score double the number of points they would usually have been awarded that Matchday. You can change your captain at any time, though the change will not take affect until the next deadline.
If your captain does not play then the bonus will be lost. Another player will not take over the captaincy in their place.
Transfers
Before each deadline you can make unlimited transfers preparing your team for that Matchday. A certain number of free transfers may be available, after this limit is reached points will be deducted from your total for each additional transfer made.
Deadlines
The game is divided into Matchdays. Any changes to your team (substitutions, transfers, captain changes) must be made by the Matchday deadline to take effect for that set of matches.
Phases
Each league is run on a phase and overall basis. The phases are as follow:
For information on any prizes available to the highest overall scorers, please see the prizes page.
Scoring
During the tournament, the fantasy football players will be allocated a point score after each game, based on their performances in the matches. Actions occurring in extra time count but penalty shoot-outs do not. Points are awarded as detailed in the table below:
The Points will be calculated using data provided to us on behalf of UEFA. Neither we nor UEFA will enter into any correspondence relating to the allocation of points to players. We accept no responsibility for the accuracy of this data.
Assists
An assist is awarded when the goal scorer receives the ball directly from a team mate and scores. If the assist pass takes a small deflection which doesn't change the direction of the pass, it will still be given. No assists are awarded for own goals or penalties. Live assists are provisional and will be reviewed within twenty four hours of the match.
Player values
Player prices vary during the group phase dependent on the popularity of the player in the transfer market. Player values will not change until the season starts.
If you sell a player for a higher price than you paid, then a sell-on fee of 50% (rounded up to the nearest 0.1 million) will be applied on the profits. For example, if you buy a player for 4.2 million and when you transfer the player their value is 4.5 million then you will only receive 4.3 million.
Leagues
Your team does not play matches against other teams. Instead, each team competes in a number of leagues. These are:
- The overall league involving all registered players
- A league for fellow managers from your country
- A league for managers starting the same Matchday as you
- A league for supporters of your favourite team (optional)
- Private leagues with your friends and colleagues (optional)
- Public leagues with other fantasy football players (optional)
