Transfer Guru
Every season. Every transfer window. We go through this, again and again. First we go through the "Branca-rage" phase, where every player linked to Inter is shite. Then we start hyping them, start talking about potential. And then comes the disenchantment.
So I thought I will publish an index, something for us to refer to when posters are hyping or trashing a transfer target. The pattern is quite similar, there are 3 phase or "zones":
When a player is linked to Inter, we go into the first phase:
Phase 1. The Armchair Scout Zone, earlier known as the "Branca-Rage Phase". No transfer target good enough, because someone at FIF always knows how to spend that money better. Usually using FM and wikipedia stats as research tools. M'Vila, he is too inconsistent. Palacio, he doesn't have the class for a big club. Vidic, my grandma moves faster. etc. Right now, players like Alves and Chicarito seem to be suffering through this phase. They are both shite. True story.
Sometime after the initial rants are over, and the rumours start to pick pace, we head into the 2nd phase:
Phase 2. The Feel Good Zone, ie lets hype the players by talking about potential or tactics, usually both. The key word is potential, even world class potential. And we see them in a lot of formations in the "Your REALISTIC Inter squad" thread. And the hype starts. And more hype. Its almost like everyone is pushing the boundaries of optimism, almost to the line of delusion. Medel is world class for his role, M'Vila is potentially world class, Dodo is the next Bale. This can be a nauseating phase.
Then the season starts, and within a few months the reality leads to frustration and phase 3...
Phase 3. The Disenchantment Zone aka fuck-this-shite phase, earlier also known as "Branca is a tranny loving shite" phase: The player just did not live up to the hype of phase 2. It doesn't help that the players take a few months to settle in usually. We blame the manager first, then the sporting director, then the president. Hernanes seems to be going through this at the moment, poor chap. From world class to Kova's bitch in 6 months.
By the end of the year, apart from extreme cases, usually the hype index starts meeting the reality or close to it at least. This is when FIF starts making sense. And yes, Guarin is shite.
So the next time you read at FIF that Medel is world class, you know that within 3-4 months the same posters will be calling him shite. Next time you see this happening, call it. Identify the phase. Its textbook.
