I'm gonna open this thread already now. Inter is very probably going to participate in this competition. I open this now because this euro season determines the participants from UEFA.
The format is new:
- It's played in the summer (which brings its own deficiencies like less real rest time for the players)
- It will be bigger than the current one
- It's played only every 4 years. FIFA wants to make more money and as World Cup is only every 4 years, they want another tournament to rake up all that money.
- There will be a lot bigger prize money in this competition and the estimations are there would be like 50-100m prize money for each participant team (which might be a bit of BS but who knows, maybe this is funded by some Gulf states?)
Club allocation is as follows:
ACF 4
CAF 4
CONCACAF 4 (+ host USA)
CONMEBOL 6
OFC 1
UEFA 12
For us UEFA is of course the most interesting one. It's still not fully set what's the system is which determines who are UEFA clubs but only details are missing (which are however very relevant to some clubs).
- 4 past CL winners from 2021-2024: Chelsea, Real, City, next winner
- 8 based on rankings
- only 2 clubs per association (exception if more than 2 clubs are winners, EPL has a chance to get 3 if team outside of United/Arsenal wins this season)
What's unclear is the ranking of those 8 remaining clubs. There are allegedly two candidates. One is UEFA coefficient ranking with the said CL winners excluded of course. Another one is this same kind of coefficient ranking but only points gathered from CL participations are included.
Pure UEFA coefficient option ranking
Only-CL option ranking
As said, in both cases Inter is pretty much secured its place in the cup.
- In the 1st option, it isn't realistic Feyenoord or Napoli can reach Inter's points, but technically Milan or Napoli COULD win CL (quite unrealistic aswell).
- In the 2nd option, we are practically in. Even Juve has a good chance getting in. Milan/Napoli would need to have a monster CL run to get past Juve, possible (for Napoli) but unlikely.
