Expensive signing does not equal relevant big signing.

Quaresma was expensive too, look how quickly irrelevant he became.

Quaresma was expensive, relevant and was a MASSIVE signing. He was Jose Mourinho's marquee signing after we tried to go with Figo and Mancini as our starting wingers. We had to sign him. Because if we didn't any failure Mou experienced could easily be attributed to that. It was the perfect story that just never was. Doesn't mean we shouldn't have tried.

Wow we have a Nyall sighting. Welcome back man ;)
Thanks :smileani:

I forgot to comment. Gabriel was observed and preserved from the categories of young Santos FC. He scored more than 600 goals.
Has the dribbler style Neymar is more finisher and not creator. It is a quiet boy who never engaged in polemics (something common among young Brazilian soccer players in our league).

gabigol not dribbling, gabigol is limited player

gabigol: atletiism and finish

- - - Updated - - -

+Good positioning
+Good vision/passing
+Ability to link up plays, especially with the full-back
+Good work rate, drops deep to build up and contributes to defence when needed to.
+Looks strong af despite his size.

-Frustrating finishing.

I gotta say despite his appearances, Gabriel Barbosa is a really smart player with good sense of positioning and decision making, but he cant play lone striker though with his current finishing.

does not know dribbling and is not creative!

Just because you lack in defense doesn't mean you shouldn't sign good players in other positions when they are available. For all we know, Gabigol be next biggest star in Brazil and it would be foolish to turn down signing just because you need players elsewhere.

Is there even a fixed budget? I don't think so with Chinese investors. So why worry about 28 Million? Maybe the identified targets in defense are not available or for some reasons it's taking longer time to sign. Or maybe coach is happy with choices in defense but not with attack.

gabigol not star in brazil!

I think last season's defensive stats were a bit skewed by Mancini committing to defend rather than a complete futility in attack. The first 1-0 win over Roma comes to mind, where we basically attempted to absorb pressure for 90 minutes and made few attempts to attack.

I'm expecting a defensive regression, coupled with a massive offensive infusion, and hoping they offset to a net gain.
Well, then its time for Miranda and Murillo to prove just how good they are. If they are better than Frog, JJ, Vidic or any of other pieces of crap we tried at the back then we should have that much of a regression. Sure they may be playing more games, but Murillo is young and Miranda played for Simeone, they should be able to do what basically is expected of any good center back pair and play the majority of games.

Basically if they are good, then it should not be madness to expect us to not concede a shit ton of goals, just because we are trying to play football and try to put the ball in the other teams net and not doing whatever the fuck Mancini had us doing.

Personally couldn't care less about if this transfer is worth it or if he deserves the fee or if he's joining now or January.

For me, the most important thing to note is we beat Juve (and maybe other clubs too) to this guy. Be it by money or by words of persuasion.

And also, we are shelling out another 30-40m Euros for Joao Mario.

That speaks fucking ambition. Again, whether it's a bad deal or good deal is, at the moment, secondary to me. The most important thing to note is that these Chinese are not fucking around.

Sorry but I fail to see the logic in spending 28m on this wanker while Ranocchia is still our first choice in defense right after Miranda and Murillo (and the latter isn't even a world beater), and we also have fucking Nagatomo in the starting line-up. There are priorities, and the entire defense line completely lacks any depth.

Call me a negative nancy if you like, but I can see this Brazilian kid going on the top-10 list of most hated Inter players of all time.
We Interisti will never stop complaining. Had we signed another CB and not Gabigol and Mario, people would've been complaining that we should've signed them instead.

We already have 4 CB's remember whereas Mario will take Brozovic's place and Gabigol will Jovetic's. Who knows we might spring another surprise on the last day? Selling Rano and loan Mangala perhaps.

This.

Although I think having the athleticism and work rate is a plus in Europe.

I think his balance and strength is also not bad either, I don't think he's gonna get pushed around like Coutinho did here in Italy back a few years ago. But if people think he's gonna be impressing everyone with his mazy dribbling runs and flicks and tricks, they would sadly be mistaken.

Athleticism like strength, or speed and acceleration? Or all three? I think very powerful strikers without speed or technique will struggle playing in modern European tactics.

Athleticism like stamina, fitness level, work rate, and making off ball runs.

It's too early to say he'll struggle considering we don't even know how he'll be played. But I think one thing for certain is he probably won't get a start over Candreva on the right, unless Candreva plays like he did against Chievo every game from now on.

Some comments here are just WOW, I mean imagine this :

You're 19 yr old professional soccer player...
You're Brazilian
You play at one of the most legendary clubs in Brasil
You're undisputed starter in that team, at 19.
You're a starter for Brazilian Olmpic team, and you win gold medal.
At 19 yrs old, you get signed by one of the biggest European teams.....
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
....and you come to online forum, and people say your technique is NOT GOOD,and you're not creative.

Wow

There are people that defend Nagatomo here and in other places on the internet so you gotta learn not to really trust people's opinion unless you know more of their way of thinking.

This is the only good thing in these IMO mindless cash splashing. We show that we're back in. Not in big boy league yet but we're coming. A bit like Juve showed with Higuain transfer. They came and they conquered, splashed what was necessary.

These overprices are irritating because we need to adjust to them (selling useful players) but other than that, of course I couldn't care less, not my money. If it's this season only and next year we have bigger revenue and we don't have to care about FFP that much anymore, this is bearable.

Now that Jovetic is gone, who is going to get no. 10? Gabigol or J. Mario? It's hard to decide tbh.

I honestly love the fact that a number of people here are calling him wanker and dickhead etc and have a very skeptical attitude to him in general. I lost my shit when I4E referred to this pussy as a bearded woman. Before the rest of you pussies start crying about 'we haven't even seen him play' and all that shit, you clearly miss the point. It's not about that, at all. It's about the fact that this little shit has one of the most cringe nicknames I've ever seen in football, at 19 years of age, is covered in tattoos and clearly spends more time and effort managing his facial hair than most straight men would ever care to. I just hope by some fucking miracle that in future people will start referring to him as Gabriel or Barbosa. As long as he's called Gabigol, I'll probably hate the little turd.

the one thing that worries me about all this is how we treat our current players salaries.

This.

I said it before that if this kid gets 3m€ straight of the bat he comes to Europe (and he's not anywhere near Neymar status), it will blow our salary budget to oblivion. All other players' agents will come to our office to demand better salary and suddenly our salary budget is 150m€.
