@Pajo: The preliminary rounds are from the first to the third round NOT THE PLAY OFFS(which is like a fourth round)!

I know, i wrote that on another forum an hour ago :p But they said on TV, on eurosport, that the play ofs is counted as well... That made me think about it, although i am 90% sure he cant play...

^ So that means that he can play in CL?

Nope, the only thing they changed was that you can play in CL for another team if you've played in the first 3 qualification matches. Pazzini played in the 4th, and therefore isn't eligible.

They said the play-offs are counted as preliminary rounds too?

He can't play, the play-off round is exactly the same as a group stage game.

Well I wouldn't say that, because in order to get in the group stage you must win the playoff haha

I know that Pazzo can't play, but this is really some one stupid rule. I mean what's the fucking difference if they play 1 more round or 1 less. If they already agreed that players can play some preliminary rounds and then play for other team, what's the fuckin difference if they play in 4th preliminary round (it's just called in a fancy way "Play-off", but it's still the same kinf of preliminary round as the 3 before) or just in the first 3 ??

Well the fucking difference might be this that the goal scorers of the 4th round will be counted in the main event goal scorers, unlike the other first 3 preliminary rounds. So they count the 4th round as the part of the main competition and therefore have a seperate set of rules for 'em compare to the preliminary rounds.

Ok. In this case... they're still stupid :p

I mean the players who play 2 games more (theoreticaly) are in advantage over some other players who play since the group stages.

Either way it's uneven. I can't see any point of counting the "play-off round" as the main stage of the tournament, since it differs in no WAY (unless we count those stupid stats as a differnce) to the other 3 preliminary rounds.

Stupid, stupid rule.

why the hell do they have a cup-tie rue at all? that shit just doesn't make any sense, it's not like a team would buy a player just to use him in a single competition

That's all that matters Nima

ps. Obviously I realise UEFA must have some twisted explanation for this, maybe even the one you've brought, but I see no logical reason for it, since it's just another preliminary round, just like the first 3. The rules are the same, the 2 tie round is the same. Everything is the same, besides the fact it's called "Play-off round" :p, and maybe some other bullshit "difference".

There really is no difference, both are two-legged fixtures where teams from the same associations cannot be drawn together:

Qualifying Round 1: Winner advances to Qualifying Round 2, Loser goes home
Qualifying Round 2: Winner advances to Qualifying Round 3, Loser goes home
Qualifying Round 3: Winner advances to Play-off Round, Loser enters Europa League Play-off Round
Play-off Round: Winner enters Champions League Group Stage, Loser enters Europa League Group Stage

Maybe because it is the only round which accesses the Champions League?? Still bullshit!

how bout this case

According to Champions League regulation 17.18 one 'cup-tied' player can be registered for the second half of a European competition (provided he is not cup-tied from the same competition). Huntelaar and Diarra have both played in the UEFA Cup this season, so Madrid can register only one for the CL knock-out rounds. So which do they choose, given both are sorely needed?

really need him in CL this season

I think that's another proof that some organizations are so obsessed with investing complicated bizzare rules for their subordinate relations just to make themsevles look like a genius who can't live by the simple plain rules. It's the same case as this 1 non-EU player rule that Italy has. The same that it was with Golden goal, silver goal, CL and EL matchs sharing the same points for the invovlved countries and etc.

So rough that we can't use him in the CL, but it's w/e. We just gotta focus on that Scudetto.
