What has acquafresca done to merit coming back?? Rest of the players are also on my list so no disagreements there.

Destro is not ready at this point in time. No sense bringing him back. Anyways, our main needs (if we continue playing 4-2-3-1) are obviously a legit wide-forward (Jovetic, Sanchez, Afellay, etc...) and someone in central midfield you can pass the ball more than 10 meters. It's time we had a world-class CM... or at least someone with the potential to be world-class. Moratti splurges on forwards and defenders but rarely CM's. Motta and Deki were good additions at the time they were bought but I'd hardly label them as world-class as one is constantly injured and the other is in the twilight of his career.

Cordoba and Matrix should retire or look elsewhere for a new club. Love 'em both but this team needs new blood. Sell Maicon for anything and get Taiwo from Marseilles and go with Santon as RB maybe splitting time with Capitano. Bring in Ranocchia and pair him with Lucio. Samuel and Lucio will also be 33 before the end of this season so Branca needs to keep an eye out for good CB's to play with Ranocchia in the future.

I honestly don't think we can off-load a 31 year old Milito on anyone. His wages are a bit much for the average team. We can only hope he becomes good again or at best, decent. Pandev should be sold for anything. Maybe bring in Cassano or Giuseppe Rossi as an alternative. Mostly trequartista's but they'd add flair and creativity to the forward line and take some pressure off of Eto'o/Milito.

As for managers.... hmm I don't even know. I don't want any old coaches like Capello or Lippi. Milan went for a relatively inexperienced manager and he's guided them to the top of the table. Off the top of my head, I'd look at Walter Mazzarri who's done wonders with Napoli and maybe Spalletti who after taking a quick read of his wikipedia page has set a number of records this past season with Zenit St. Petersburg. I'm sure he'd love to coach in Italy again. I would've loved Laurent Blanc at Inter. He was actually the manager I wanted most this past summer but alas he took the job with Les Blues

Anyways, that was a long post for me. You twats better have read it! ;)

Interesting stuff, I mostly agree with the points. Though I think Cafe & Matrix both won't retire. And also, they will retire at Inter when the time comes.

But defence question is important. We need to start looking at it, gradually. So that we won't have too many CBs at once but that we will have the continuity in that department when Lucio and Samuel gets older. LB situation needs to be cleared once and for all. We can't continue using Chivu or Zanetti there as first choices, it simply restricts our way of playing too much, it's totally unnecessary advantage to our opponents to face LB who can't attack properly, even decently.

Midfield and forward questions rely on the playing style and system we're going to use IMO. It could be perhaps wise to pick a system which Internazionale will use. Then it will be used in Primavera, in lower youth levels and of course in the first team. Then we pick the coach who prefers this system. That way the continuity in playing style comes all down from youth levels and it would be easier to promote youngsters from there and also get players from outside since everyone would know how we play. It would be easier to market our club for players in the transfer market, easier to make offers to them since we can guarantee certain playing style-dependent things right there.

Of course it's not that easy as I stated above, but the basic principle would be that. Coaches are never copies of each other so they vary things a little, but having the core structure of the squad built on our club's playing system would make it easier for new coach to adapt to the new environment.

I don't know how they are doing it now in youth levels, at least with Mourinho I think Pea was instructed and tried to used the same system Jose used in the first team.

Acquafresca is a great finisher. He's not suitable to be having an important role, but I'd rather have him coming on instead of let's say Pandev or Biabiany in order to score a goal!

Fair enough. Personally I would prefer bringing back destro as opposed to acquafresca. So we agree on the role just the personal differs.

Yeah, but I want Destro as well :D
Both of them, so in case of injury one of them starts and the other still has his role as rotation/backup ;)

we even need maicon... Even in that shitty form he is in, he is better than most of the RBs out there... leave the spurs game aside, that a fact..

The squad needs a lot of changes because we have old players. With the financial rules from UEFA, we are limited as to how much we can spend on new players.

Will this become some very difficult years for us? What do people think?

I think we are limited on spending a particular sum on a player. Something like 15m euros at most. And that would start in 2012 not 2011, can't be sure though.

I think this will actually help us. Since we generally do not spend that much of an amount of players lately, and others seem to overpay for transfers (Robbie Keane!!!, freaking Bent!!!, Berbatov!, Cristiano Ronaldo!!!!, Kaka!, Ibrahimovic!)

Others needs to worry more than us. We just need to make full use of the 2011 transfer windows, both January and the summer one, so that we don't need to get overpaid players. We need to go young and talented quickly (but also need the right coach to guide them)

All seems to be lost after such a terrific last season. Honestly, I do not think we can patch that gap if we continue to approach games with no game plans. Even if we had a full squad, approaching games this way will definitely cause us to lose some points along the way if players continue to pass and run around like headless chickens.

So how do we rebuild?

1) Trust and faith in Benitez

Buy him the players he need in order to play the style he wants (because he can only play that style - I boldly make this statement after watching 15 games). However, this is unlikely as players and board seem to have lost faith in him. Despite MM and players publicly backing Benitez, I still have this niggling doubt in me that things are just not going too well in the camp.

2) Appoint a coach who suits the team

A coach who understands the flaws of this team. All we had to do was to continue what Mou left for us - a solid D, a team with self-belief, a team which was confident in playing the particular 'hit-and-break' approach to the game. Appointing a coach who plays similar tactics may be the way for us for the next few seasons until the old guard fully retires. This is the most sensible thing to do as we are most likely not going to sign any new players.

3) Buy 3-5 new quality players

Of course, this is the easiest way out. We can buy new players. But... FAT HOPE. No way MM is gonna start spending because we need to sell before we can buy. Even so, I can still boldly proclaim that I have faith in the same batch of players who won us the treble in <6 months ago. I still honestly believe we have the best GK, RB, CB, CF and AMC in the world (I wouldn't mind a world class CM). To maximise the usage of a Volvo, you just have to understand its flaws and maximise its advantages. If you continue to use a Volvo as if you are using a Porsche or Ferrari, then accidents are bound to happen.
