Acerbi, Bastoni, Darmian, and Lautaro do not need to spend a single minute on this game. Anyone from our starters should just sit tight on the bench drinking warm chocolate. I do not care if Inzaghi plays a bunch of youngsters in their place. We already have enough Coppa trophies in our cupboard. Currently we do not have the sufficient squad depth to play at three fronts. So just drop Coppa game, focus on winning Serie A, and achieve considerable progress on UCL.

My prediction is that we’re not going to come out to play. Especially with the rumoured lineup, I think we’ll sit deep, conserve energy and try to hit on them on the counter.

I hope we’ll see more from Frattesi and Arnautovic, but once again they’re being fielded alongside the other reserves. I think a lot depends on Asllani really stepping up to fill Hakan’s shoes.

Just imagine Lautaro or Thuram get injured and we have to play important games with Arna as a starter for 90 minutes.

He should start Sensi from the start. I know thats impossible cause Limone is afraid of his injury in early stage of match. I think that Sensi is only player who played but didnt start any match this season. Its easy to get rid of player when you dont give him a chance to show what can do. I would start him, Asslani and Frattesi tonight.

The trouble is most players’ brains don’t function like us armchair strategists do. Even the regular starters would want to play every match if their bodies allow them to. I could see how demoralising it is to spend 3-4hrs training everyday, only to sit on the bench. It’s like showing up at every orchestra practice and being told that you’ll have to sit with the audience.

In an ideal world Inzaghi should set clear objectives for the B squad. Arna and Klassen should aim to play the full 90 mins. Frattesi needs to score a goal. Asllani will need to show significant improvement on his positioning awareness. No coach would ask the player to go out and lose. But he can set it up in a way that it benefits the squad’s long term objectives while providing the pathway for the non-starters to grow.

In reality what would happen is we field the B squad and start throwing on Thuram and Calha by the 67th minute. Then Darmian or Acerbi gets injured during extra time…

This feels like a game where someone like Lautaro could get injured. I just have a weird feeling about it.

However, hoping the boys get ahead early and then try to control the game from there on, with or without the ball.
