There was only ever going to be an outside chance of competing for the league, let alone winning it. And I'm not saying that as a knee-jerk reaction to the horrendous match against Atalanta.
We should definitely aim to win the Coppa though. Despite (somehow) still being 6th, Cagliari have the worst recent form in the league. 1 draw and 4 consecutive losses in their last 5.
We can and should focus more on the next league match. Rotate here where we can.
With Candreva being inconsistent and D'Ambrosio out, Lazaro definitely needs to play. His poor performances have all been matches where he's been thrown under the bus - forced to play out of position, or coming on as a late sub in a huge pressure match while we're losing. As I've pointed out before, he's actually done well in the precious few starts he's been given and when he's played on the right.
Sensi and Barella both need to play a little bit and get some minutes back in their legs. It'd be nice for Sanchez and Esposito to get some game time too. Between these considerations to juggle, I'm looking forwards towards a competitive squad and a chance given to some of our backups.
A small, childlike part of me is quietly hoping that Dimarco plays and impresses. It's not because I have any belief in him, but because I don't want to buy an expensive 3rd choice WB in Ashley "shit in my mouth" Young.
Give me Padelli, Lazaro, and start Barella and Sensi with one of Vecino/Gag/Valero. If Valero starts, he can play centrally in Brozovic's place. If Vecino starts, give Sensi a go at DM.
