Well I think this was about what all the realistic predictions saw coming in to the match. I don’t think we played poorly, especially in the 2nd half. However we’ve seen this story too many times this year. We play good football and this team has some nice pieces, but we are lacking something in these big matches.
- We can’t hurt teams with pace.
- Our CF is as unathletic as you will find at this level.
- Our midfield lacks a physical presence (Vidal actually played really well tonight by his standards, still not enough).
- We lack depth on the bench to change matches
With all that being said, we still have these moments in games where we are basically unplayable. I didn’t think we were going to have that at any point tonight but we did and we forced Klopp into making 4 subs between the 60th minute. We lost this match on 2 set pieces. I think there is something positive to take away from the match despite the result. There is potential in this team if we can make a few key acquisitions in the summer.
I’m not upset with Inzaghi or the boys, this is the big leagues. You won’t find a team a level above Liverpool, they’re on par with City, Bayern, etc in a one off match. We played at essentially our maximum but it’s just not good enough right now.
