I know this post is a bit late. But I have been meaning to share a few thoughts on our matches against Ludogorets.
I know this might sound strange, but I enjoyed the matches against the Bulgarians. For me, the Europa League is more about football than the Champions League. I ackowledge that Champions League is the pinnacle of club football but the format and the protagonists are mostly the same each season (Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich). The thing I like about the Europa League is that it has a wild west kind of feel to it. Also, there is something romantic football wise, about a team like Inter, with all its history and the squad that we have going to Bulgaria to play a team like Ludogorets. The tie was a real mismatch but the fans that went to the game went to watch a star studded team play their boys. I think there is something special in that but understand that some posters may simply see it as a waste of time.
Another aspect that I really enjoyed about the ties against Ludogorets is that there was no pressure. When I watch Inter in Serie A, I stress. I monitor what Juventus, Lazio and Atalanta are doing, I count points, and try and calculate who is going to be where by the end of the weekend. For me, trying to keep pace with Juventus and Lazio has been more stressful than fun and it takes the fun out of watching football. But in the Europa League, we are free of all the pressure and the calculations and monitoring that goes on when we play in Serie A. For me, this was a welcome change.
The only other point that I want to make is that I love how with Conte, we have not disrespected the competition and are taking it seriously. I like our competetivesness in the sense that we want to win every game, regardless of who we play, that kind of attitude is a meaningful break from the past when we did not care too much about being eliminated from the competition.
