Skriniar didn't start only because there was a chance of a move to Spurs. Once it was clear the two sides are very far apart he immediately returned to the starting lineup against Benevento and Lazio.

I'm not saying that Kolarov is ahead in the pecking order. Also, Godin arrived at Inter under a different idea and Bastoni emerged eventually. Now Kolarov has arrived knowing that Bastoni was the first choice. Still, Kolarov will get a lot of playing time this season and that's part of the plan, not because Bastoni is out.

If we bench KoLOLarov and move DeVrij or Ranocchia out to the left in his place we would basically be giving up on him already.

I do rate Ranocchia, he is useful as a back up De Vrij. But I would not use Ranocchia at LCB. As much as I wish we had better options, I think Kolarov is a better fit at LCB. Lets not judge him too soon.

Of course, I would have prefered to shift to a back 4 with Bastoni, Skriniar, Hakimi & Young missing. But looks like Conte is now married to his 3 man defence.

Conte starting with a back four in 2020 is outside the universe of possibilities. Maybe if we exist in a multiverse there is a world where Conte will only start with a back four instead.
