My 2 cents,
I think this game was a weird one, at least to me as I have not had the opportunity to watch many Inter games this season. In the first half we appeared to play with 9 men. Muntari could not do a thing right, whether it was a pass, a cross or a tackle he just ran without sense most times. Then there was Rivas, he was possessed with nerves or at least it appeared to be the case, that display was really scary and we where very lucky that ManU did not take advantage of it specially since we where pressed for 20 mins and for 10 of those mins it felt that it would be a matter of time that Rivas was going to to screw up … which he did, when he was late on the off side trap and gifted a one on one to ManU.
In the second half the team did change (with the Cordaba substitution) and we started pressing hard with ManU finding it hard to keep possession for long periods as they did in the first half and this time we actually did create chances, unlucky for us Adriano mis-kicked the shot and decided to throw him self in the area after Rio pulled his shirt, I think we could have made some thing better. I liked How jose decided to attack even more and brought in Mario and Cruz (although I think Adriano could have stayed on as IMO Cruz was not needed). I think those substituions with new 433 attack minded gave the team some confidence (false in the sense that Rooney and Tevez were not on and ManU was happy to defend at that point) that we could do it and it may pay dividends as we may now not feel too far behind from ManU’s quality. It is unfortunate that Ibra’s clearest chance was given offside when it was not.
Considering that we have an inferiority complex in the CL I was quite happy how we kept ManU scoreless (although luck was on our side with Julio saving his best for this match) despite Inter creating very little. ManU really had two chances from open play in that half and they came from mistakes, everything else was from set pieces . I was also annoyed at Carrick’s and Fletcher’s keenness to go down to the floor easily, I guess they are instructed well, dive when the ref will not be scrutinized heavily and the opposing team will lose momentum or at worst slow their attack if not stop it.
I am not too disappointed of our display as well since it reminded me of our Milan derbies 3 years back when Milan flooded the midfield and made it hard to pass and then a lucky deflection came, lucky for us this time a deflection to our goal did not happen.
We are in with a chance it may not be a strong change but it is there. ManU will be a different dog at OT and we might benefit from more space available for out attacks and be ready to soak a lot of pressure.
PS Got to love the atmosphere at the Meazza, From the TV you could tell the crowd was great, I can’t belive how CR7 was whistled constantly. Kudos to Santon I was impressed and the lad is quick we was only turned once when Critiano got a cross which no one got to.
