Maybe this is the easyiest game on paper. There is no other time to rest some players if we want try to win the Coppa Italia. And the Juve game..well, a draw is not impossible there. But its juve, a loose will not kill me. I prefer wining something like Coppa Italia then hope for CL which is really not easy because of Roma and Napoli...

Winning Coppa is a "nice to have". Qualifying for CL is a "priority".

I would rather do what Pioli seems to be doing... rotate the team during Coppa to give players like Gabigol, Medel and Eder some playing time. But we must beat Pescara at home.

The benefits of winning Coppa are lower than the ones we'd get if we possibly qualify for UCL. Though I wouldn't mind trying to win it. It'd be a good message to the rest that we're on our way back to the top.

I would probably rest Miranda and play Medel - Murillo. No reason to risk the yellow card suspension. Pescara is also a good team to play a Medel against since they are more quick on the ground with Caprari then they are an aerial threat.

Check again, I think he said "next season".

You cannot change the qualification once the season has already started. So once the domestic seasons started this season (2016-17), the qualification parameters for CL 2017-18 were already locked. UEFA can only change the parameters for CL 2018-19, as long as they make it formal before domestic seasons for 2017-18 start. I believe that is the plan.

The UEFA regulation allows change of regulations every three-year cycles. So with the 3 year cycle (2015-2018) where we see No. 1-3 highest coef (Spain,Ger,Eng) get 4 spot and No.4-6 with only 3 spot going to end in 2018, it is the time the new cycle will start.
The UEFA new regulation allow 4 CL spot for No.1-4 highest coef probably because of the fear for European top club exclusively form Super League that only club with large fanbase, money, and prestise can enter.
